New (future classic) poll.....
GOOD MORNING ALL.....Bear with my indecisiveness
Narrowed down to buying a classic or future classic (leaning towards that) Thought I’d find something to pair with my newest Daytona watch.... So thinking -special/limited mustangs...ie: newer Shelby, Boss 302, etc... -pristine 996, 944 Porsche, etc.... -OTHER WHAT EVERYONES THOUGHTS. Thanks again:) |

hey bud. got your PM.
I will answer here. I love Mustangs. But they are a hammer. The Porsche will be like a scalpel. They will also be much nicer inside. I vote Porsche.

Oh. And I do realize that people like to push what they have. I am no exception.
And you did say other... But I got it for a reason. So there you have it. I like attention. And this gets plenty of it. I can’t go anywhere without multiple thumbs up and people making comments. It’s exotic. Looks super special. Ludicrous to drive. Sounds incredible. And is pretty different from everything else. You can get a super low mileage example for 100k. All the bells and whistles.

Richard, no offense to Mustang owners, but I don't quite put recent Mustangs in the "pairs well with a 6263" category. A '65? Sure. A current one? Not so much. Maybe a 993? Or really, a '73 RS...

Thank you. No doubt, a Porsche basically any iteration 911 is a good 6263 compliment 👍

The options you listed are two very different price ranges. If you're willing to spend the money for a Shelby or a Boss, I'd consider going with a pre-owned 997. The 944/996 are nice cars, but they have their issues. The 997 looks much better than any of those anyhow.
A buddy of mine picked up a 997 for just under 45k, mint condition, 20k miles, and the balance of the CPO warranty still active. Great deal IMO.

I second the 997. I picked up mine in February. A bit more than your friend but I wanted a very specific spec. I just need a Daytona to go with it :) Here's mine after a bath: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I had a classic 1966 Porsche 912. Beautiful, lot of charm, good handling but not a sport car by today's standards. A 911 anterior to 1973 would be a true classic.
I had a rare and more modern 944 Turbo S. An excellent car. But not an eye catching. As I'm a Lotus fan, as a classic I would recommend a Lotus Elan (not an Elan M100, I'm talking of Type 26, the car of the mid sixties, seventies). As a future classic I would say a Lotus Elise S1 (one that I have since 1998). Not sure it was regularly imported in the states, although I saw one close to Detroit MI (in Birmingham, on Woodward avenue) years ago at a cars seller. Now, those little cars are perfect, driven hard, on European B roads on on track (especially the Elise), not for cruising or long travels on motorways. |

Nothing come close to beating the sound and value for money than an American V8. Have you driven all the cars in question? I own 3 Mustangs and a C7 Vette. The Stingray does WAY more than the Mustangs but the Shelby GT350 is by far the superior car to drive when it comes to fun. Basically you just have to ask yourself which will you get more use out of, a scalpel or a hammer? Which of the two would be easier to maintain one that has to be constantly clean and sterile or one that can literally take and give a beating? When it comes time to sell, which would be easier? |

997.2 C2S C4S or turbo would be my pick.

a special ed mustang, vette, demon, hellcat, or any muscle/gt car really, will always be worth more in the future, relative to MSRP, than a standard 911, 944 or even the underappreciated 928's.
people can see the end of muscle cars and v8 pony cars, and good ones are being horded (see 5d rolexeses). see what's happening to 70's and 80's american v8 car market. its nuts, for a reason. even old pickups are pulling $50 - $100k -- stock. a cayman is an alternative to a 911 an alfa 4c is an alternative to a ferrari an audi r8 is an alternative to a lambo all of the above will survive as electric cars. muscle v8 cars won't. and, btw, i like euro cars. but i'd never buy and hold over an american car. (they're also a PIA to maintain) |

I think OP is looking for a fun, weekend car, not trying to diversify his portfolio with collectible cars.
