Which watch

Both can be had for mid 50s

I’m thinking of each as ultimate grail
I do have some Daytona’s fwiw already.

Platinum Daytona
Patek 5712

What say you?

I love that one Jason. If I do get one that’ll be the dial.

Both cool watches but prefer the 5712.

Unfortunately, you will pay a bit of a premium for it........Approx $6-8k from my dickering/bartering/experience, but I figured I was only going to do this once.....might as well get the one I want. For me, it wasn't the diamonds......I liked the absence of brown outlined subdials. For me, it makes it feel and wear like a 3-hander.

I have not regretted my decision even once. IMHO, there is something really special about a Platinum watch.

The 5712 please. That's a masterpiece of a watch.

It's a Rolex forum, but I'd go with the 5712 because I don't like brown.

However, I don't know why you ask a bunch of WIS for their opinion. You should get what you like, not what anyone else likes.

Daytona.
No offense to 5712 owners but I always found the dial to be unbalanced.

Platinum Daytona, mostly because I couldn't fathom paying that much for a SS watch.

The 5712 is my favourite watch I've ever owned. To me a Platinum Daytona doesn't add much value over an SS one, the core is the same, just the metal is different (I hold this view about almost every PM watch out there that has a SS counterpart and hence I've never owned a PM watch.) The 5712's value add is in the design, heritage, craftsmanship, etc. They're totally different in feel, the PT Daytona is like a brick, while the 5712 is light (dainty almost) and much more classy/elegant.

That said I can get the struggle in deciding between the two. I wouldn't pay the mid-50s for a 5712... but at MSRP it's one of the best in its range IMHO.

This is a Rolex forum but geesh..... I cannot believe anyone would pick the Daytona over the 5712. That's insane to me.

Platinum Daytona is amazing but hard to justify over the 5712 unless you already have other Pateks. And since you already have other Daytonas, choice seems easy.

5712 of the two

(but it would be the 5711 because of the added & comparable water resistance to the daytona)

5712 unless you plan on narrowing your Daytona collection.

It'd be the 5712 or maybe a rose gold 5711 for me.

Platinum Daytona is my vote....but beware ....your other Daytona’s will struggle to have any wrist time
I recently got my grail Daytona and my others haven’t seen the light of day ;)
