Sony DSLR
Does anyone out there own a Sony DSLR camera? If you were contemplating purchasing a new DSLR, what would you get?
I bought a Sony A700 about 8 months ago and am happy with it. Do Canon and Nikon still lead the way?

I am seriously looking at the Canon Rebel XSi right now. I have pretty much decided to take the plunge. Now I am just shopping around for the best deal.

Personally I would go with Canon before Sony. I prefer Canon to Nikon, as well.
I have the 5D Mark II and it is a great camera, but even the Canon Rebel is a great camera. |

I decided to go with Nikon, a D60 with 18-55 VR and 55-200 VR lenses, though I had a Canon compact. I don't know maybe it's just the brand but I wouldn't get anything else than Nikonor Canon....

The new Sony 25Mpxl Full-Frame camera is great if you shoot studio work.
I'd side with the others here regarding the more mainstream brands though. You'll find more complete lighting and lens systems if you go with Canon or Nikon. Sony is making a solid camera though. Sony makes most of the imagers that go in a variety of DSLRs. Their chips can be found in most of the Nikons. Even the venerable D3 and D700 have a chip that is manufactured by Sony, even though that sensor is Nikon's design. The image processing is the secret sauce that gets put on top though, and right now - Nikon and Canon do that part better than Sony does. Nikon has "EXPEED" and Canon has "DIGIC". Canon is really the giant here. They are one of the few companies who have the fabs and the engineers making very advanced imaging technology. |
