What would it take to start your own brand?.. like Farer, or Halios ?..

With this growing industry, I keep thinking of the smaller watch companies. Just a question that keeps crossing my mind. I know that one could purchase movements from several watch makers. But where do they go on in terms of design ?... And metals ?... And materials ?... To me those companies aren't really small.

How big of an investment would start-ups like them need..?

I have yet to see a watch from any of them that even remotely interested me. The business model seems to involve getting money up front with kickstarter or some other campaign, paying someone to design based on their drunken bar napkin sketch, paying someone to make the cases and gather up the parts, paying someone else to assemble, designing gimmicky packaging and shipping them somewhere around 9 months later than promised.

How much are you willing to 'invest'? $50,000,000 is a basic start perhaps.

You may be able to buy some watch companies for much, much less than this soon.

I have never done it, but there is this guy named Daniel Wellington who turned 30k into 200 million with his brand. He sent designs to china and they manufactured his watches and he sold them.

Google him! Hope this helps and good luck.

An overwhelming desire to lose a lot of money

One could private label a web based watch company for as little as a business license and registration.

Dime a dozen.

The key is to be found and marketed.

A marketing budget. You could sling watches and merely manage the brand outsourcing everything. Like say Richard Mille lol
