Basically, it is a treatment to the buckle to make it look the way it does. Most likely they took a torch to the metal and did sme kind of protective layer to make it look burnt so to speak.

Correct.Everyone treated is different,with different colours and shades,in the outcome.Also,cannot predict the outcome... golden,some copper,some black/blueish.
