Rolex black dials

Not sure if it's just me but I noticed the black dial on my EXP1 114270 is a shade darker, more reflective compared to the dial on my AK 116900.

It's hard to capture on camera but on a sunny day, the difference is quite obvious, the AK almost dark matte gray where as the EXP1 has a shine.
Wish i still had my BLNR to compare.

Anyone else sees the same?

I had an AK so I know what you mean, l think the dial finish is more like but not so much as a black non gv Milgauss, l had one too, real nice. My SubC and Blnr seem the same, more glossy. I also wish l had my AK. It was my daily for a year than l traded it to my AD for a new Polar.

I'll take a look at an explorer next time I come across one. To my eye, my air king doesn't look like it's matte, even in the sun or under a flashlight. I wonder if it's the color on the AK dial that's creating an optical illusion? Or even the other points of color contrast on the dial?

I really don't know though, you might be correct! I'll definitely look at an explorer as soon as possible.
