You guys probably know that now there is a scarce of ss sports rolex watches which driving the prices up. Now that i wanted to buy a ss sports rolex is it worth paying more than msrp for a ss watch? I think right now this might be the only option i got since the closes ad in my area that i signed for the wait list never called me and its already been a year and its only a gmt blnr that i want and not even a daytona or blro gmt ss. Other AD doesnt even accept anymore names to their list. I have a feeling now that they will never call me since its already been a year and i have no relationship with them and never bought any watch or jewelry from them. So now the question is, is it worth it paying more than msrp to our trusted seller here for even a preowned watch since this is the only option i see or should i just wait till the rolex bubble burst. Im not rich by any means but if i want something i make sure i will save for it but now that im ready then this happen...

But still lucky i was able to buy sd4k for less than msrp back when nobody wants it back in 2015. I was torn between sd4k or blnr but i was really lucky that i chose sd4k because of discontinuation but no plans of selling it so doesnt matter to me if the price go up.

You may not even be on the real list. Or any list for that matter. If you want it and don’t have a relationship, find one on the grey market for a price that works for you.

Unfort if you’ve never bought at the AD and if you’re not periodically visiting them (maybe you don’t know) and more importantly it’s been a YEAR for just a BLNR then I think your path is clear

If you really want the BLNR then Grey might be the only option. Fortunately the premium on a BLNR is not significant so there’s no huge extra outlay to get the watch you really want

If it was BLRO or Daytona SS different story on mark up

I am still on lists with multiple AD’smthat I never bought from, for nearly a year now.
I think I have a better chance of catching a fart in a windstorm than I do of ever hearing from them.

Life’s short and for me, it would depend on how much over MSRP. At the going rates for the BLRO and Daytona, I wouldn’t but I suppose it’s all relative.

With of networking and some degree of patience it shouldn't take too long to get anything apart from a SS Daytona and probably the new BLRO

You can get any watch you want anytime you want it. Its just whether or not your willing to cough up the money.

I think most SS sports watches are currently at their peak gray market prices. Hold off until Basil next year or maybe a lit longer.

I personally feel that the hype has died down dramatically in recent months.

99% sure you're not on their actual call list. Keep in mind that Rolex ADs get 50+ calls a day about these watches. They literally couldn't put everyone who calls or walks in on a list -- that list would be 10,000 names long, most of which are from out of town or have put their name on 10-20 different lists and are not a validated customer.

Unfortunately right now your options are to buy gray market or buy something else from that AD (it doesn't have to be a Rolex -- could be a Tudor, TAG or something else that they carry) to prove that you're an actual customer, an actual enthusiast and not a tire kicker looking to make an easy buck.

Life is short get what you want.
BLNR has one of the lesser mark ups of the current demand watches. Couple grand over and less if you pay tax. If you cam afford 9k you can afford 11k and that little extra will be worth the joy it bring. Devide the extra 2k for however long you plan to keep it. No brainer if it’s what you want.

If you can’t wait, pay premium and get it now. If you can wait you need to invest some time and effort to get it. Try to drop in to a few ADs every now and then to show them you are sincere and keen to get it for yourself and not to flip. It’s possible. You won’t get it by just calling and waiting.

It's unfortunate people cannot buy what they want and sounds like you're not on a real list of theirs to begin with. I would just start looking for a nice example of the blnr with a manageable price and start enjoying the watch now if this is really THE watch you want. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply guys. I have time to wait but the problem is im probably not on their list so there is no point in waiting for that ad. Maybe i should just wait till baselworld andhope the rolex pump their production or maybe buy hulk for the mean time since its the same price on the grey market but not sure

You say you are not rich ... few of us are (I'm not either), so you have to consider what you want vs what you can afford. If you have a budget, buy a watch that fits or save more until you can reach the gray price for what you want.

I always buy watches at market, which is different than MSRP. If I want a watch that is accessible through a gray for say $2-3k over MSRP and I can afford it, I buy it. I don't do well waiting around forever. At the same time, if I can get a Explorer II (just as an example) for $6,600 full set, why would I pay $8,100 at AD? I would save the difference. Same goes for a PM, which frequently sell discounted at AD or even lower through gray.

I think life is too short to wait 3-4 years for a watch I could enjoy now. What value do I place on years of lost enjoyment? To me, it is worth paying market and getting what you want, of course, only if you can afford the "one" you are really wanting.

I like that Rolex watches hold (pretty much) their value, which means I won't lose much and might even gain a little, but I am not a watch investor by any means. I don't baby my watches, but I also don't (any more since my LVc) mix concrete with them. I just enjoy wearing the watch I want to wear, which for me right at this moment is a SD43 and it is scratching every itch ... but there is always tomorrow.

It's good to exercise a little patience but if you can't wait you can go with paying the slight premium from a grey dealer for the BLNR, I think that would work.

I feel your pain. I want the sub hulk. Finally found a local guy has one nib for 12k. 3 over retail but at this point I am wasting way too much time trying to search online etc. I need to get back to more important stuff besides hunting for my
Watch. So as someone said earlier time is money. Not one of us knows what will happen next year in terms of value I personally believe that all the watches that are hard to come by will continue to hold value for awhile. Get your watch find it from a non AD get it with all the papers box and enjoy it. Right now it is kind of a cool factory t have a watch that you do not see everyday so I would get it and then go visit the AD stores that couldn’t get it for you so they can tell you how cool it is! What if they do not produce more more next and the value continues to climb. Get it now and enjoy the heck out of it.

It's not "worth it" even if you can walk into the AD and get any model you want for 20% off. It's a luxury item.

Should you but it anyhow at whatever price the market demands for immediate gratification? Probably.

Answer is simple, if you can afford buy the BLNR at market price (ie : grey). DavidSW has some in stock. Life is too short for waiting game. Buy what you like and what you can enjoy (put smile in your face). This enjoyment is priceless. I can put argument on the opposite side, who knows that the price will keep climbing and it would be out of reach.

Who would have predicted 16710 jump from $4-5K to $8-10K. That’s double market value.

Don’t over think, go for it !
