Explorer II 42mm - best Rolex ever?

It's the one I chose when nearly all were available.
The size suits me, I think it's simply the best looking, the steel bezel is handsomely brushed, the case, despite being "bigger", is well proportioned with nicely shaped lugs and is fairly flat on the wrist. It offers a slightly better shock absorbing system, the GMT complication is useful to me and the time is readable at almost any angle in almost any light.
It's also well priced within the Rolex scheme of things....

I love this watch, but man it really needs a trip lock crown. I just can't get past that detail.
I know it doesn't "need" it, bit the larger crown would look better and make it easier to use.
Otherwise it is a great watch.

Honestly, there's nothing to summarize. The beginning you quoted really is the extent of intelligent knowledge of Rolex or the Exp ll.
Horrible, horrible video to use for justifying the greatness of the X2.

The X2 is not the best Rolex ever, but like all Rolex it is great and would love to own own if funds allowed.

Mark, I love the watch, in fact I’ve considered adding it multiple times but others keep getting in the way

I think part of the problem I have is that I can’t decide between black or white. Both are so great. I love the size and the awesome legibility

My fave sporty in the range, but I would like to see a Triplock crown. A black ceramic bezel would be a nice option too

The EXP II 42 Polar is definitely my favorite ......... diameter, thickness, GMT, easy to read, proportions, bracelet, easy-link, etc.........

It's my favorite sports model as well. I love it so much I almost bought a black dial to go with my polar. But I went with a dressy piece instead. I'd be surprised if I don't own a black dial in the near future. Very underrated watch.

I hate this thread.... I've had the 6 digit twice now and flipped twice not because I didn't like it but to liquidate funds for another harder to get piece. I know I'm going to get it again... By the way Polar is the one...in my opinion of course :)

Summary is that these guys actually know Rolex watches despite their on air and on screen personas. The guy to the right is Cameron Weiss, who as CEO and master watchmaker at Weiss Watch Company probably knows a thing or two about watches.

The color commentary in the back is a guy who also seems to know his stuff about the Rolex game, and it is his strong opinion, which I was asking the TRF community on which to comment, is that the Explorer II 42mm is likely the best overall Rolex watch, not just value for money or value for availability, but best overall in terms of functions, features, toughness, readability, fit and finish.
