Rolex Pepsi 3185->3186 question

Hello TRF!

Quick question regarding the 16710 pepsi gmt.

Does anyone know when the 16710 started to have the 3186 movement.

I'm currently looking at one which is 2006 model, just curious on if it has it

Kind regards, Cloitus

Hopefully yours has a 3185. In the 16710 it's regarded as being more reliable due to the jump-hour spring design being a point of failure in the 3186. But, of course, everyone wants the 3186 because it must be "better".

If you don't have a case opener then you can open your crown to the hour hand position and wind the crown one full revolution. If it moves 5 to 6 hours then it's a 3185. If it moves about 8 hours then it's likely a 3186.

3186 movements were fitted in the later Z-serials and all M-serials. Your 2006 should be fitted with a 3185 movement.

Pepsi with a 3186 is super overrated and hyped. Nothing wrong with the good old 3185.

What letter does the serial number start with? 2006 is likely to be late-D or early-Z, and therefore 3185.

Lol I do.

I think for people getting into the game with a 3186, super overhyped on the internet. If you got it back in the day awesome. Just ask Padi lol

The internet and all it’s hype, wild claims, vague statements and BS has made people a lot of money.....

My 20 year old 16710 serviced a few months ago(with that old 3185).....pretty good results if you ask me

I've also heard that the 3186 on the 16710 had some issues at the beginning. I would certainly not pay more for it over the 3185.

I couldn't care less, 3185 3186.. is one any faster than the other? As long as the thing tells the time and is reliable, surely is all that matters...it's not like you can even see it.

The 3185 has a big ruby secured on a complex GMT wheel with integrated springs and levers.

I have a 3186 for many years now, use it quite often and every time I travel, never had any issue.
Some (many) hate the 3186 for its hype, arguing it is not justified, still the hype goes on since a good decade now, it is a well established fact. The 3186 is an upgrade of the 3185. The hype is due to the fact the 3186 are the last of the model, they are relatively less available than the 3185. For that, people who want a 3186 will have to pay a premium. Simple market rule.
