Committed to Buy
After 50-plus years of waiting, setbacks, engaging in other vices (a ’70 El Camino, Harleys, firearms) and a home purchase, the time and circumstances have at last come together to comfortably allow me to finally commit to purchasing my first Rolex. A 5-digit 16613. A Blue Boy as I refer to it.
With the slate-gray, serti dial to be exact. Gentlemen and Ladies, I’m very geeked. Perhaps one year ago I noticed my local jeweler had a small, table-top Rolex display stand within which were displayed a few used and three new Rolexes. I spoke to a clerk with whom my wife and I have several times previously dealt and was told of a buyer with whom they worked whom, given time, could most likely find what I wanted. In turn I replied when circumstances presented themselves and with peace of mind a decision could be made to comfortably conduct a transaction on a cash-basis I would commit to them. This past Thursday the request was made to begin the search. Condition of the item was presented as the most important aspect; papers and, if possible, the box were listed as very close second preferences. Upon receipt and absent the presence of relatively current RSC documents, I’ll within a day or so send it to Dallas for a service. The Submariner first held my attention, then, sometime while in high school I saw at 1675 “root beer” which hung on as “the one I would someday own”. But years later I then saw a Blue Boy (or “Bluesy” and what I now know to have been a 16803) a few weeks after beginning the job from which I last year retired. There were a few things about that watch, the individual’s demeanor wearing it and that stage of my career which were compelling and the desire for that piece has never waned. If you’ve read this far I thank you for your indulgence. Brevity is the soul of wit and in my exuberance I am culpable of violating this pearl of wisdom. I trust fellow WIS souls understand. |

Thank you for the kind sentiments.
I've a showroom wrist shot of the Blue Boy and the Serti version of the same model on the same wrist taken this past August. While I could post that picture I'm going to wait until mine comes in. In the meantime I'll embarrass meself and venture forth posting pictures on perhaps a WRUW and sub-forum threads. |

Thank you and I agree. As a rookie here I haven't intention to buck accepted practice nor the hubris to suggest alternatives. BB one day spilled forth and now flows easier. Regardless, some of the company's two-tones have got to be amongst the most striking I've ever seen.
