Can’t decide : Sub vs yachtmaster

Can’t decide between a Sub date (current model) or a yachtmast (current model) . Any input from those that own both or have owned both ? It seems as if the yachtmaster can be had for not much more money than the Sub date from trusted sellers and also NIB. Clearly not as much demand but possibly a best kept secret? Is the yachtmaster less desirable because of the scratch prone bezel and the lack of the glide lock bracelet? Help me see the pros and cons to the yachtmaster, Sub seems to speak for its self.

Stand out and get the yacht master. You won’t be disappointed. Unless your a diver. The yacht master was originally made to be a higher end submariner. If buying retail then the sub is a better buy. But on the second hand market the yacht master is a steal compared to the sub. Remember the Daytona wasn’t popular at first. I can see the same happening to the yacht masters in the future. The platinum dial gives it a nice weight and it’s slimmer then the sub too. Hope that helps you out.

I have always liked being different from the masses so I’m thinking Yachtmaster might be for me. As a Rolex newbie , I see the YM as the submariners big brother.

Maybe.

Then again, you might end up selling the YM for a Sub like me. That was one of my three newbie mistakes I fixed.

The YM (while a nice watch ) isn't the Sub's big bro though.

If you end up going for a YM, go different and get the 5 digit platinum dial one.

What about the YM was a mistake ? I value the real world experience feedback.

I don't think the bezel is any more scratch prone than any of the other non-ceramic bezels. I had my yachtmaster for roughly 8 years, wore it in regular rotation and did not have any major wear marks on the bezel when I sold it. I found the case extremely comfortable on the wrist and had many non-WIS folks comment on how nice the watch looked.

Been thinking of adding the two-tone chocolate dial YM in the future!

I would say get the Sub, because my YM's will become more desirable as time goes on...

Own both Sub-date and YM blue dial. YM for me any day. Don't get me wrong, sub is great but YM is sleeker and less common. Concern about bezel is over blown. Good luck with your choice - no wrong one here.

If you want to be different get a Jaeger LeCoultre chronograph. The sub is iconic. It’s legendary—it’s the original Bond watch. It’s the watch Jacques Cousteau, Paul Newman and countless other trend setters have worn. I’ve known and desired a submariner since the 70s, 80s and finally when I got my own in the 90s.
That said, I’ve owned 5 submariners. 2 of them I flipped because of the stigma. Because everyone else had one and I wanted to be different. You know what? After I flipped them I missed them and regretted it. So how did I come to terms with this? I stopped caring. I wear what I want and the sub sings to me and I am drawn to it. If you have to look for reasons to not get the sub you’ll regret and desire the Sub.
A quick fix that i do is since many people in NY wear subs is I wear mine under the cuff. That watch is for me, not for others. I also wear a 114060 (“no date”) sub. ie the original sub. Most of the subs you’ll see are the sub date.

There are a lot of YMs in dealers show rooms. The Sub is more desirable if that means anything to you.

i prefer the YM.

My thinking is like this: I prefer a GMT to a Sub and visually a GMT and a Sub look almost identical so i would not have both (LN's). Therefore a YM adds some variety

Because i would never not own a GMT LN , i would never own a sub LN. Maybe a hulk, but thats it. If it was me i would probably compare a GMT vs a sub and not a sub vs a YM.

Neither. Get a Celini, or stay away from Rolex if you really want to stand out and to be different from the masses.
Rolex is too common to the masses.

But, why?
Try to get the one you smile upon everytime looking at it.

That YM with blue dial is a very attractive watch. Get that for something different.

Everyone has a black sub-c

YM is a much more attractive, comfortable piece, imo. I don't care for ceramic bezels, and the YM platinum bezel has worn just fine in the time I've had it.

The YM is less popular because it's not as beautiful as the SubC (this is from my point of view). However, I can't deny that there's something special about the blue dial version of the YM!
I'd still choose the SubC!
