Bruno mars gifted entire band members yellow gold 15202s

Popped up on social media ... Bruno mars gave 8 yellow gold 15202s including I’m guessing one for him. Pretty cool and rather fitting gift ...

I'm a fan of both the artist and the brand..but the 2121 movement may not have been the best choice for the crew here, that movement is going to break on the first beat on stage:)) Even a watchmaker at AP told me not to make any sudden arm movements when wearing my 15202..

Not sure this rumour is accurate, I wear my 15202 daily, never had any issue, of course I wouldn’t play football with it but it is not that delicate.

Was he laughing uncontrollably while delivering such a message?

Sorry to say in such a politically incorrect way, but that’s a crock of shait.

There.

It is surely a fine movement and needs a bit of love and care but to say you can’t move your hand while wearing it is an utter nonsense.

I used to represent an NFL running back. When he hit some benchmark yards that created a significant bonus under his contract, he bought his entire offensive line yellow gold day dates. Nice gesture when the teammates help you make additional millions!

Agreed. I spoke with an AP watch tech a few weeks ago and he was raving about what a great and reliable movement it is. They can dance all they want! ha

And we wonder why prices are what they are now...

That aside, great way to say thanks.

The watchmaker was from Le Brassus, literally from AP. Met him at Art Basel when they were showcasing AP watches there. He specifically mentioned that the 2121 movement was highly delicate because it is a very fine and thin movement, and very sensitive to shocks. Given his credentials i would take his word for it.

Again, this is a 40+ years design, proven to be a reliable and accurate movement.

Statements such as “dont move your hands vigorously while wearing the Jumbo” is, parson my French, utter BS - proven by thousands of happy owners who have moved their hands, legs and sometime even torso for almost half a century with these watches on.

Not sure why he was saying what you say he is saying but again I am an a Jumbo owner know this is not right so in my opinion, should just be ignored. It’s a fine hand finished movement but it’s not that different from other fine hand finished movements installed in countless sports watches from all sorts of high end brands.

However, if you want to baby your Jumbo, no one is going to report you to the ultra thin police - everyone to their own, it’s your property and your money after all.

imagine if one of the musicians was a bit of WIS too! been thinking on how he missed out on the explosion in watch prices 2015/2018 and will never own a 15300ST let alone a 15202 (and never dreaming of course that he might one day buy a solid gold (24k!) 15202, new.)

and then bam...

He is saying that because in the AP 2121 movement and in the Patek 28-255C which are both based on the JLC 920, the whole movement without the calendar module is 2.4mm and the mainplates on the movement is about 1.5 mm. All the rest of pieces of steel that make up the components are about 0.5-1 mm thick so during a bad fall or movement if you happen to hit the watch at a bad angle the mainplate or other important components could be bent out of shape.

You find plenty of cases for such failures in vintage 5402 and 3700 where the whole movement had the be replaced due to damage to the mainplates or other important components. This typically tanks the resale value of the vintage piece. This information is typically found in the extract of archives.

I won't say that its likely to happen but it does happen often enough that since the 70s that I've seen about 3 out of 10 auction pieces with replaced movements, of course at a much lower value than unreplaced. Alternatively, you could get a less than 1mm sheet of stainless steel and see how easy it bends.

I don't think you will break the movement desk diving, going to parties, and doing basic dancing but I can understand how the manufacturer would not put it as part of the recommended activities to be on the safe side.

It's an awesome gesture even if they are not a WIS. Now they are a unique watch from the tour, we will probably see it in auction in 50 years as an important historical pieces, if we have not all died by then
