Rolex watches and the English Pound

Due to the lowest value of the English pound in 24 years
against the Euro, the Yen and the Dollar...
some terrific Rolex prices can be achieved if you act now

Providing you have the money available... of cource.

In the United kingdom before Rolex gets a "whiff" of the price discrepancy
with the rest of the world.. and increase the prices.!! (they do that trust me)

Tell your wife...hey honey how would you like
to go to London for a "dirty" weekend or romantic weekend if "dirty" is not possible..ANYMORE...

She will either think
a) what is wrong with him..?
b) what has he done now..?
c) what is he "cooking"..?
d) since when he likes "dirt"..?
e)...or she'll say...of course darling...why don't we..?

What Ever..

Fly to London and buy any high dollar Rolex on the cheap
I mean cheap cheap cheap..

With the 2.5% OFF the asking price immediately as they have lowered their
sales tax (VAT) FROM 17.5% TO 15%
Then a discount of 15% - 20% which ...it is a piece-of-cake currently
and then another 12% (net) off the above price for export.
I estimate that you can easily achieve around 50% off the U.S. MSRP.....Simple really.!!

Attention
How to handle the return of your VAT or sales tax - Very Important,
as this amount makes the difference between ...
Me helping you buy a cheap Rolex and ...you find it on your own...

When you buy a high dollar Rolex from England
pay separately the net price of the watch and the amount owed for VAT.
The Jeweler provides a stamped self addressed envelope for the return
of the stamped (later by customs this time) export paper at the time of departure
from England to a country outside the EU (the U.S. is conceived as third country outside the EU...not-third world).

Once the jeweler receives this stamped tax export paper he sends you a cheque for
the amount of VAT he charged or in your case credits the
amount to your credit card you have used for such charge.

If you have paid separately the VAT amount you can dispute the charge
in case the jeweler does not return the amount owed for VAT ie. lost envelope, never received envelope etc etc.
I suggest, to keep the customs stamped export paper, come back stateside
then make a photocopy of the stamped export paper and then send back to
to the jeweler registered express, signature required.

Short of the plane, that is carrying the darn paper, falling off the sky...YOU are covered...

Have a nice trip..

a great review of how to get a discount, and save some dollars, on speaking to my contact at rolex hq, they have not decided yet whether to put up the prices, by approx 10 percent because of the currency issues.

they are going to see what all the other suppliers do

Ah, glad to know that I was not the only one to have this kind of market/forex analysis.

After studying the prices of Rolex worldwide (I'm French but currently based in Canada), I took advantage of a trip to France to spend the week-end in London during the pre-Xmas sales and checked Harrods for their price and inventory. They just dropped the 17.5% VAT to 15% and the GBP was close to 0.97 for 1 EUR.

My target was a simple Explorer (I) at 2920 GBP (now 2857 with new VAT). Take 10% off for Duty Free -> 2572 GBP.

Now for the the best part: I used to be paid in Japanese yen a few years ago and they appreciated a lot recently. I just used my few yens left to pay for it. A sweet 40% discount (VAT, duty free, yen appreciation) versus the equivalent full price in Paris.

Wasn't sure I should jump on the Rolex boat so soon, but it was just too good a bargain to let is pass!

Now I heard the Explorer was "adjusted" to 3,100 (new VAT included). That's a 8.5% increase?

Shopping at Harrods
Harrods will charge between 20% and 30% the concession that operates
withins the Harrods establishment no matter if it is Rolex, Cartier, or Stolichnaya Vodka
When I wrote about low Rolex prices in the UK
Harrods was most Definately NOT the place to buy from, if you wanted a Rolex bargain.

good info. act on it as soon as you can buying rolexs in the UK.
good luck in getting any discount on popular ss sports models.

apparently the pounds are under valued at the moment. i'm hoping it will bounce back soon.

a ss model would be difficult to come by, so moist likely there will be no discount.
i have seen a couple of TT models in the last few weeks.

Yes - no such thing as the English pound. Just as there is no such state as England - its the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

i know- all the English supposedly hate Andy Murray because he cracked a joke a few years ago about supporting any team that was playing England in the world cup.
But I am not biased at all either, I don't care who beat England

Lighten up you guys - this is turning into another "lets bash the UK thread".

So sad - this country has given me a lot and I would rather live here than anywhere else in the world

i know what you mean, but it is the Truth unfortunately. It is sad

The UK economy is to be much worse off than ANY OTHER in the world in the next few years- cant blame others for that just good old 'clunking fist' and his chronies

What - worse of than Bangladesh or Albania ?

There are of course serious problems but there is a lot of hyperbole as well. The UK's economic malise is only 2% points away from Japan's - and other rich countries are showing similar precipitous declines as well. I'm not saying its good but let's keep it in perspective.

Why do Brits love whinging and self - depreciation ? They do it better than anyone else in the world.

However - and I mean this sincerely - best of luck in Australia Toph. Make sure you keep posting

I am sure that our soldiers that are risking thier lives (and the ones that have lost theirs) in the service of our country would be pleased to know that you think they have wasted their sacrifice.

I am very proud of my country and am tired of people whining.

As our friends in the USA would say, if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

Mike.

I am very proud of our Armed Forces- every soldier in fact. I wish i had there courage.

It is the people in this country that do nothing and sit and complain but take no action, that are part of the problem - it is People like Mark an I who want to change it that are part of the solution. But i have had enough so I am leaving. Britain is stagnant with a massive Brain Drain going on. The Scottish Parliament couldn't even pass a budget. 1 in 5 people cant read or write, life expectancy in several areas of Glasgow is less than 60- 52 is teh lowest i think. On par with Africa.
These problems are getting worse- where are these solutions when a Nanny State Gov't doesn't listen

P.S thanks David for your support- i hope it all goes well and willkeep you informed

Toph - the UK you are describing bears no relation to the one I live in

Is it a North/ South thing ?

As for the brain drain the only one I know of has been out of the universities and into the City of London's banking houses.

Anyway - the very best of luck. Take a long book to read on that flight - unless your going by boat, in which case take a library

Toph,

I admire and respect you....

In my opinion there is only one way to vote and that is with your feet.

I am fully aware of the problems in our land, but there is also another side, the country that we live in has provided you with the education that has enabled you to choose where in the world you would like to live.

Obviously you have the talent to grasp the opportunity ,I just wonder how many other countries could have given you this?

When people turn a "Rolex and the pound" thread into a whinge fest I find it hard to bear.

Seriously I wish you good fortune in Australia I am sure you will do well.

Regards Mike.
