SIHH 2019: CODE 11.59 Live Pics and Honest Point of View>>>>>>

I’ve been waiting for this. Beside it only being in precious metals at this time and no line (being a dress watch primarily) I actually like the watch. The chrono one specifically! I really love the movement and haven’t been able to find out yet if it is a hacking movement. I even like the enamel dials and sapphire curved on top and bottom. I understand the goal. It’s difficult to see the the dial while taking pics head on but when I look at my watches I don’t rotate my wrist all the way, I see the dial on an angle . They tried to make the dial visible from that angle. I wish my Pam 311 was like that. I also love the case design. I’m a sucker for anything mostly brushed with polished edges lol.

Thanks again, so it looks like the case really is too hard to see unless from the sides and that is a disappointment, leaving just a straight on view of the dial which everyone agrees is so generic. As for the chrono I do agree the font and dashes used are not refined or sleek enough for an AP.

Thanks for sharing - a good balanced write up.

The openworked is really next level, as is the QP.

So many clever design elements, it is the dial on the base models that just seems a little incongruous with the rest.

Let’s see how they do though - I’m not the target audience being over 20, and also more of a sporty/ tool watch fan but can definitely appreciate the craftsmanship that’s gone into creating something from the ground up.

the watch collection is perhaps underrated from a technical point of view, but AP set the expectations too high

Thanks for the photos and review.

The argument of “you have to see it in the metal” sounds a lot like “she (or he) has a good personality”.... ;-)

Thanks for the link.
Initially I felt negative towards the new design. However some models are starting to grow on me. The only model I truly dislike the most is the chrono, it just looks so damn generic.
I hope they make dial improvements over time.

I agree with your point of view. Not sure I’ll ever get a 1159 myself, but I’m not foreclosing the idea, especially if they eventually come out with a steel chronograph and redesigned dial/hands.

I like them but won't get it because I can't stand watches with less than 100m WR. It's because I do everything with my watches. I'm probably not normal in that.
I like the dial and honestly speaking 15400 has the most boring dial imo. I'm not 19 but that's honestly how I feel.

You really wouldn't need more than 30 for general splashing or rain. I wouldn't imagine why you would want to swim or shower with a leather strap watch.

It's my way of saying I'd like it to come with a bracelet. ;)
Kidding aside I still prefer my watches to have 100 WR even in leather. I normally replace the strap with rubber at some point if it doesn't have a bracelet option.

My honest point of view, I think they will still look a like Daniel Wellington in the metal as they do in the photos.

All in all, and without yet actually seeing a Code in real life myself, this sounds like a very objective review.

One element I picked out but not read elsewhere is the lack of sufficient anti-reflection, which I think could be significant, especially as the dial is likely to be one of the most spectacular elements.

I mentioned elsewhere it sounds similar in style to the dial on my Omega Sea Master Planet Ocean, which also has 3D gold logo etc and really 'pops'. However, a major contributing factor is double sided AR, as you really can't see the crystal much at all, allowing you to more enjoy the dial itself, and I think if reflections are too prevalent on the new Code it will be a major detraction. Again, speaking without actually seeing one, if AP have spent so much effort on making the dial really pop, on the face of it it would seem silly not to have reduced reflection interference to the maximum possible.

The case reminds me of a JLC Extreme Lab, but nowhere near as cool. Dials are pretty generic. All in all, a very odd release from AP IMO.

Many published articles on other watch websites and people just bashing the watch without even seeing it in person. How can someone be honest if he/she have not even perused the watch.

Another great one H. I actually like the line. Would still spend my $ on RO/ROO but I do like them, especially the PC and the openworked ... but then again, I also like the Millenary ... a lot.

It appears you don't quite understand what honesty means. You are claiming people who haven't liked the watches based on a review of pictures and videos rather than handling the watches physically are being dishonest (i.e. lying) about their opinions on the watches. That's just a ludicrous, inflammatory assertion.

One can easily have an honest opinion about a watch without having handled it. For example, I haven't held the watches in my hands but rest assured I'm not lying when I find the watches to be fatally flawed because their date windows are lazily placed at 4:30; the dials are anodyne at best (and look like mall watches at worst); and the name of the collection is so embarrassingly bad that I wouldn't buy one just so I could avoid telling a friend I'm wearing a "CODE 11.59 by Audemars Piguet".

Thank you sir. I’ll be getting something with that movement in the future. A RO or ROO or maybe a revamped 1159. I like the line up. The hands are boring but something faceted with a little lume and 100 wr would be great for me.
