In San Francisco for the night...
I have an early morning meeting in San Fran tomorrow. Flew in tonight late. On the 46th floor of the hotel. I have never seen such spectacular views! 3 massive windows each on a different wall with a view of the city. Can’t wait for day light!

Enjoy, Shannon. Most beautiful city in North America. So much to do, so much to see. Enjoy, my friend.

Those are great pics. Will you be in SF for the rest of the day tomorrow? You should check out a bakery in the Mission district called Tartine (18th and Guerrero) in the morning. If you're around for dinner, the House of Prime Rib is hard to beat.

Agree. I've lived in SF during the late '90ies/early '20ies when it still was a decent city to live in,nowadays is a total mess. To me Vancouver is the most beautiful city I've ever visited.

I stayed at the four seasons down town for a week in July and also had a stunning panorama view similar to yours. Expensive but very fun city.

That's interesting, being so far away, I didn't know there were issues with SF. What's going on? |

It can be a great place, so enjoy your stay . . . . . . but do mind where you're stepping when you get to the sidewalk.

In short, the tech people combined with the cities overly left/liberal government have destroyed the city. |

Thanks, but, I'm pretty sure there are other factor at work other than blatantly partisan characterizations. |

Well, having seen the city change first hand over the course of my life, that is my (probably worthless lol) opinion. Whatever the case, the city is in poor shape and I really hope that things turn around one day. I realize that I generally speak poorly of SF, but that's because I have such fond memories of the city as a child and it is depressing to see how much it has changed.

For what it concerns me,it's just them to blame. San Francisco has never been a particularly clean city, but coming from Europe I can deal with that,or at least sort of it. It's not any dirtier than London or Paris for instance, but tech people turned it into a gigantic and expensive living room.
It's bad,I wil be in the US next week and I'd love to visit some old friends there, but hotels in the city have become stupidly expensive with parking garages costing as much a room at an airport Hilton,so I'll stay away.. |

I loved San Francisco so much when I visited there years ago.
Now due to political reasons that are not allowed to be discussed here the city has been destroyed. |

i know why SF has become the way it is, and i have never been there, its become like this for exactly the same reason that numerous other places have gone the same way.
A clue is 'be sure to wear some flowers in your hair' It was on my list, but not anymore, i listen to a fair bit of u.s. talk radio and the general consensus is that it's a mess. |

The homeless problem is always an issue in warmer climates where people will gravitate to. Some welfare agencies throughout the country were at one time giving their homeless one way bus tickets to California so they wouldn't freeze to death.
A lot of of causes of homelessness including substance abuse, mental illness, men abandoning women with children, and joblessness. It's a tough problem. |

It’s not that bad, Wes. Vancouver is also getting pretty bad. But agree, Vancouver is an amazing place.

I dreamed of SF growing up in the midwest and got to spend considerable time in the city in the 1990's and 2000's. My wife and I will never go back, based on what it has looked like our last two trips. Walking from the Westin St. Francis to the Moscone Center was just a mess of the worst kind. Really felt a sense of sadness at how it had fallen. Fond memories, though.

I been to SF a few times and never had any issues. Stayed at the Ritz which is a nice hotel and I have passed the 4 seasons someone else mentioned which looked nice obviously. All the restaurants we visited were great. Saw games at Candlestick & Levi's. I'm from NYC so possibly my expectation of dirty & bums is low, not sure. I speak very highly of SF generally.

So much money going around, why isn't the city clean? Or what are they doing with the tax money?
I've visited SF around 2006. I still want to go back because the location is so amazing, same feeling I had with Cape Town. |
