Anybody with a cough?

A recent study from the UK suggest that chocolate may be a better cough suppressant than cough syrup.

“A research group at the University of Hull in Yorkshire, England recently conducted a small study to explore the link between the sweet treat and respiratory health. To do so, they examined 163 patients in Europe with a cough, randomly prescribing them either regular codeine or a chocolate-based medicine called ROCOCO. After analyzing the results, they found that patients on the chocolate-based medication reported a “significant improvement” in their symptoms within two days, compared to those on the regular cough syrup.”

One more reason to love the Brits.

Listen, I’m following the 2019 weight loss story and trying to be good and this certainly does not help!

But it’s good to know!

Geeze, I think I’m getting a little tickle...hmmm...what to do

The article is poorly written, so I Googled "University of Hull, England Alyn Morice chocolate" and got four pages of links to local news with the same poor writing, but no link to an actual study.

The gent does seem to be an expert, but I wonder who might have funded the study. Hershey, maybe?

Are you a chocolate hater or are you just trying to ruin my day?
I downed a pound of chocolate since reading the article!

Isn't codeďne the main ingredient in krokodil? I'll just have some hot tea and rest when I have a cough, thank you.

viruses

some bad cough viruses going around at the moment over here in Blighty, as I well know due to it getting the better of me, I did some research into cough remedy's, and one old school remedy is a mixture of olive oil, lemon juice, and honey, any thing else is expensive snake oil,

another thing to consider pine needle tea, as it contains loads of vitamin c,

as for me? I'm still researching the brandy theory, I'll let you know how I get on

if you have a really bad cough, try taking very strong laxative--- you will be too afraid to cough......
that way you cure your cough

:)

It doesn't necessarily impugn the findings, but the researchers were all Oompa Loompas.

Cadbury (Kraft) is more likely...

Good heavens, thank you so much. I needed a laugh, there are tears in my eyes after reading that.

Didn't even see it coming.

It is, but isn’t to be confused with krokodil. Krokodil is so dangerous because of the other chemicals used in the codeine extraction making it a very dirty and unsafe drug, then to add into account that many needles are shared and reused which can cause gangrene. Codeine syrup will stop your heart in high doses/mixed with other drugs and alcohol. Is generally mixed with 7 up and jolly ranchers with the street name “lean” for the drink. I’ve been prescribed it a few times and it offered a more intoxicating effect than Medicinal.
