AD permanent link removal?

So after a lot of digging around on this forum - which is brilliant by the way! - I’m pretty sure I need a permanent link removing from the 6’oclock side of my brand new 31 datejust oyster bracelet, to make the watch sit in the centre of my wrist.

The AD (goldsmiths) have already said they can’t do it, but will call Rolex and ask their opinion if I go in and let them have a look. It’s a fair distance away, so before I do... Does anyone know... Should the watch be sent to Rolex for them to do it? I’ve read that some ADs offer this service?

I have 4 permanent links in each side, and another 2 removable links in the 12 o’clock. The watch is sitting on the outside of my wrist (see photo).

I’m more than a bit disappointed that there doesn’t seem to be a way to adjust it without having to send it back! Is that right?! I’ve been wearing it for 2 weeks but it’s just not sitting comfortably. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

You can walk it into a Rolex RSC and they should fit it for you while you wait.

Any watchmaker could do the job.

Looks centered to me. The inside of the folding clasp should be centered, which might not be perfectly aligned with the outside.

They just pull apart, although they are pretty tight.

The photos look like it's centered. Before removing a permanent link, perhaps try to flip the clasp? It works on the older style bracelets.

The anatomy of each owner is unique - and fitment varies. I see in your picture the thing you dislike. But the removal of a permanent link is...well, permanent.

As you’ve only had the watch for 2 weeks, I’d say there are some things to try before doing something costly, and virtually irreversible.

Could you try using a looser setting in the clasp? Yes, I mention looser because you may discover after 2 weeks that letting the watch hang lower that it will center better.

Folks are misunderstanding it to think you refer to clasp.
Agree I would seek to remove a 6 o’clock link to have watch better centered on wrist, as opposed to flipping over to the left.

As Larry says, the RAC is your best bet. A competent watchmaker would also work...provided s/he is just that.

Hi op.

You can use two pairs of mole grips to remove the link. Doing this will ruin the link.

Fit is important to me too, I'd have Rolex see if they can remove a link. I did something similar to my wife's Rolex. It was just sitting weird on her wrist.

It should be the inner clasp blades that are centered on your wrist, not the exterior clasp cover which is shorter than the blades.

I will raise my hand and say I'm thoroughly confused about what fitment problem OP is trying to fix. From the pics it appears that everything is centered as it should be. What am I missing?

I think the OP is trying to center the outer clasp cover which is making the inner clasp blades off-centered and uncomfortable.

Not saying this isnt real but it fits the constant Troll we have and the stories keep getting better. Starts like this thread and he winds the troops up and they never respond back again. Nothing wrong with that bracelet so that leeds me to believe.........................

Yup, I have to do this on my watches to get the clasp blades centered. Worth a shot before you pull off a link.

Hi everyone
Thanks for the helpful comments, they’re much appreciated.
To make it clearer, I was asking because yes the clasp is central but the crown of the watch was sitting on the outside of my wrist and digging in my wrist bone.
I have been to the AD today who were able to reverse the bracelet, then swap a link from one side to the other. This made the watch face sit much more centrally and it feels WAY BETTER!!
I’m glad I didn’t go for the permanent link option. This way it can always be put back if I change my mind. And the clasp being the wrong way around is a small price to pay for having a watch that fits properly and feels comfortable ������

For those who said life is too short to worry... why would anyone want to wear something uncomfortable and off centered when it could be adjusted to fit better??? Thanks anyway!

For anyone else in a similar position - Flipping the clasp worked and was a quick and easy fix ����
