What is the woman’s equivalent of a submariner?

My wife is getting interested in the hobby but doesn’t really know what she wants. Would like to get her something timeless and classic - eg the “black sub date” for the ladies. She kind of likes the two tone datejusts but doesn’t really know where to start. Any help would be much appreciated (mostly bc the sooner I get her one, the sooner I can get approval for another for me...)

OPs or DJs are likely to be every lady's first Rolex.

How about a Submariner.
There was a woman in the lift with me this morning wearing a black sub and it looked great on her.
Quite often I see women here wearing the green sub but today it was black.

As a bonus you might also be able to "borrow" (read steal) it from time to time.

I think of the Cartier Tank as the women’s equivalent to the sub.

Tudor Mini-Sub... if you can find one.

A Cartier Tank seems like a much better choice, however.

Well if you’re the Submariner, she’s got to be the Master...

The Yacht-Master, of course...

There are older ones in 35mm, too.

The Submariner has a low profile, maybe try it itself?

My wife really loves her recently purchased DJ. Rolex is a name she recognizes.

Any 5 digit sub. Lower profile and smaller in general to the 6 digits. I got my wife one so that she can still wear her watch when she’s doing the washing up.

Honor Blackman rocked the "Pussy Galore" and I have seen plenty of daytonas on Female wrists so I don't see why they can't wear anything they want!

cartier 100% but rolex dj in smaller sizes is pretty standard too (smooth bezel more widely pleasing i think, fluted bezel and specific taste, dont assume two tone as most ladies i talk to think it looks a bit "johnny vegas").

i find many women to have very serious thoughts re: watch size. for example my wife is not interested in a sub but wanted a specifically feminine watch and has a pink dial dj in 28mm. my mum despite her eyes wouldnt go beyond a tudor claire de rose in around 34 mm (and she was concerned about that being too big or being the mans watch). i know heaps of people arent like this (elle macpherson, charlize theron, many peoples' wives on this thread) but it has been my experience.

Omega constellation two tone is a popular choice for ladies here in Asia.

I think it looks more elegant than a DJ, and it's cheaper so OP can use the saved amount to fund his next watch

Hmmm these day's women wear anything. I would say; if she likes a sub, let her wear a sub.

Gender norms are redefined.

as does mine. Making a sub in 35mm and she would have that too. I do think women's professional models is an underserved market. I contend they buy DJs because thats what there is to choose from, not that they would choose it if there were other options.

Discontinuing the 35mm YM i dont get. Even if it wasn't the biggest seller, i guarantee it out sold many, many, many individual DJ configurations. The 37mm is a tad too big for her, but works on smaller wristed men where as the 35mm YM was probably more skewed to the ladies.

Yes that is the more literal comparison, if in general then a Cartier is a good shout altho I think in recent years Rolex has far surpassed Cartier as the choice of female celebs for example, so the DJ or PM Daytona are the ones I see most often now, used to be all manner of Cartiers; Tank, Panthere, Santos.

So it seems there are two ways your question is being perceived:
1) What should you get your wife
2) What is the ladies' equivalent of the Sub in terms of popularity

In answer to [1]:
- If she's athletic/sporty then look at a yacht-master
- If more feminine, the DJ 31. Here lean toward TT or PM on Jubilee if looking for something classic, TT or SS on Oyster if wanting something more sporty.

In answer to [2]:
- Without question a TT DJ is the ladies' "Sub"! For the older generations it's 26mm, these days it's 31mm or larger.
- These watches outnumber the Tank 10:1 IME, in fact I seldom see Tanks at all

How about this? 31mm on oyster, diamonds for a little bling. Feminine yet sporty.
