Stolen hulk
My next door neighbor was robber recently and his hulk was stolen. Question for the group - is it bad to post the serial number here in case the watch is offered for sale? He's reported it to Rolex, but curious on if it would help/hurt?
Thanks |

i would but thats about it.
was it insured? If he makes a claim its the insurance companies watch. In that case, its not my problem anymore so i wouldn't try too hard.

Gutting, unfortunately I don't know the process with this sort of thing
I'd like to think if the serial was posted then folk would keep an eye out in good faith |

It was not insured, unfortunately (he thought it was covered under the broad policy). Painful lesson learned.

in that case i would be a lot more proactive in searching pawn shops, the internet, etc. Get the serial out there.

Thanks all. He went to an AD to replace, and while they didn't laugh at him, he got the obvious response - gonna take more than a minute to replace at MSRP.

If you want to spread the net wider the art loss register for a fee will register your watch. They claim a higher recovery rate (there was an article in the FT on them last year) but others will probably know much more. In terms of selling they also offer a search facility to check if anything is registered missing/stolen as well. That is about all I can offer. It is horrible having these things stolen but there are plenty of people who want a Rolex, no matter how it comes their way regrettably..... FD. |
