Warning if visting Amsterdam: increased robberies by Rolex gangs ....

***
Since beginning of last year an enormous increase of raiding by extreme violent Rolex gangs (mostly autochthonous Maroc's) happened in the Netherlands; especially in Amsterdam.......if you visit beautiful A'dam (once peaceful and safe for tourists)........don't show your Rolex in public.......they trace you in bars, on terraces and in nightlife; follow you and 3-4 folks beat you up in a quiet place, mostly into hospital and on the operation table.......without Rolex !
They also try to trace you via internet.......

Makes me sick. They won't stop unless people start killing them...which won't happen. It's going to get much worse before it gets better.

Damn shame...visited Amsterdam with a good friend a number of years ago and had a great time. Guess like anything else proper situational awareness and acceptance of the times.

More reason why I don't wear my Rolex while traveling. Even wearing my Tudor could make me a target.

Thanks for the heads up but I never flash a Rolex while traveling.

Also my hometown has 1/3 the population but 4x the annual homocides compared to Amsterdam so I won’t be too concerned traveling there

I just spent the NYE in Amsterdam and for 5 days I had my white face Daytona C on my wrist all the time, day and night, sight-seeing or drinking in bars. I haven't feel unsafe not one second or that somebody was starring at the watch.

Probably my luck but I felt that Amsterdam is still one of the safest cities in Europe.

Very horrible of course for the victims, but only a few cases that I have seen have hit the news. It’s also not appropriate IMO to suggest this is perpetrated by specific nationalities or suggest deportations, crime is committed by a very small minority of all types of people.

Amsterdam is not different than many other large cities, and I would suggest is safer than a lot, just take usual precautions and come visit this amazing city.

Well.....the facts from: http://www.republiekallochtonie.nl/n...-criminaliteit
(Translated by Google):
Individuals with a Moroccan or Antillean background are suspected six times more often of a crime than persons with a Dutch background. There are many suspects, especially among 18- to 25-year-olds. For example, one in ten young adults with a Moroccan background is registered as a suspect. Non-Western young people of the second generation are suspected as often as non-Western young people of the first generation. If no distinction is made according to age, persons with a non-Western background of the second generation are more likely to be suspected. The difference between men and women is greatest in people with a Turkish background: men are suspected of a crime 6.4 times more often than women. Among persons with a Dutch background it is a factor of 3.9

Well that could just mean the police don’t like brown people so suspect them more.

You could also substitute “Moroccan or Antillean” for “black” and Netherlands for the USA or U.K. and say something similar statistically.

And it would still be a simple-minded, gross oversimplification of a rather complex reality.

This makes me nervous as I may be going to Amsterdam with my family in July! Granted we won't be out late or in bars since we'll have our 1 year old with us but still!

I don't wanna leave my Rolex at home! It needs to join me on my travels!

And if anyone so happens to browse the Leica forums, roving gangs that beat people up for their Leica's are also increasing....

Easy to spot for people in the know i.e. hobbyist and thieves looking for a good profit. Like rolex watches, secondary market values on a Leica hold very well.
