Volvo to limit cars to 112mph/180kph
Thoughts? Probably doesn’t affect their customers much. Think anyone else will follow suit?
I’ve always pondered (and quickly figured out why it never happens) why governments don’t regulate this. I know there are legal places you could drive very fast (tracks) and it could be needed for a safety reason briefly. With the advent of technology you could also limit cars to speed variably with gps to speed limits. I mean it is the law, Right?

i dont care. Technically my range rover goes to 140. Im not driving an SUV that fast, ever.
there is no reason for safety you need to go over 100. Its more dangerous than safe even if you are having an emergency. With proper race car certifications (if that is even a thing) its still not safe, ever, on a public road.

Didn’t they essentially do that when they stopped making anything bigger than a 4-cyl. engine?
Many makers do this with the ecu already. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I think it's wrong.
But Volvo can do whatever they like, I'm not buying their cars anyway.

Makes sense to me. Volvo knows their market well, I’m sure.
Do you think any Volvo drivers will ever go past 112 mph when they’re driving to their knitting club or the latest vegan rally? Unlikely. |

The people around here driving Volvos never seem to get over 50. They fight with the Suburus and Prius to see who can block traffic the most.

in the UK at least it seems totally unnecessary. It seems impossible to speed with the speed cameras everywhere on the highways. they dont even need cops, they just mail you your tickets. super convenient

A couple of years ago, I was so excited to have a rental car when on the German Autobahn. But it was a cheap one, and I couldn’t even get it to 180.
Here in France I couldn’t imagine going much past 160. |

The only thing I'm worried about (in the future) is that if everything is slowed down or limited to a certain speed that I won't have enough power when I need it, to get out of the way of something or get away from someone.
I like to stay in control. |

Not a fan of this type of regulation. Although I rarely exceed 112 MPH these days on a public street.
If it is a safety concern, focusing on phone use seems like a logical step. My observation is about half the people on WA roads are stoned and texting...

Most domestic US cars have been limited to speeds around that for decades. Most of the Euro manufacturers have had a gentlemen's agreement to limit their performance models to 155 in the US, Porsche and the exotics weren't part of it.
Nothing new here, you have full power until the ECU turns off the fun so really not a safety issue. |

So I guess the consensus is, no one will follow suit.
