Opinions on a new old stock purchase 116300

Hey everyone newer member here but I'm on here a lot, I dont post much but could use some opinions. While at a visit to my usual jeweler to pick some things up I had a look at the Rolexs as I always do. Since I've made some bigger ticket purchases recently weve been working out some nice little deals and discounts here and there.

Well while I was in there I had a look at a 116300 DJ2 that caught my eye. Brand new in the box, papers and everything, it is the black roman dial (looks more grey in the photos), smooth bezel, oyster bracelet, and he said he would give it to me for a very reasonable price. I've been contemplating it for a few days and told him to set it to the side for me as I think it would make a real nice daily watch. However I am torn between the stainless or the 2tone. For daily wear what is the overall preference with a 2 tone versus an all stainless.

For what it is worth I currently have a 41mm president that doesnt get much wrist time. So I'm not worried about not liking the gold I'm just not so sure about how I like them together in 2 tone for daily wear if that makes sense. I keep going back and fourth one minute I really like the 2 tone then the next I am thinking of sealing the deal with the stainless option. I was hoping some other members opinions could help me decide. Eventually I'll probably end up with both but for now I'm just getting one of the two. I'll post pictures of them when I'm allowed to based on my post count.

If you can get a good deal and you like the watch, go for it. I just looked it up and it's pretty damn nice. I definitely prefer it over two tone. BTW what does he mean by "very reasonable price"?

I can get it for $6300 out the door. I like it alot I just dont want to regret not spending the extra and getting the 2 tone is all.

I love the DJII in SS. Have you owned any two tone in the past? Not for everyone but the gold sure adds a touch of extra elegance and bling to the watch IMO

I havnt owned a 2 tone rolex before. Other brands yes. I wasnt super crazy about it but it was also not my favorite watch. I guess it really just comes to personal preference. I'll have to try them both on again. Eventually I plan to have them both or if not a 2 tone DJ a Daytona or sub.

I've owned three two tone Rolex. Sold them all. It was too flashy or blingy I guess for me as I got older.

Owned a Stainless steel DJ II and loved it except for the polished center links but that is unavoidable on a DJ.

That is a good price if it truly is New Old Stock.

Any pics?

Edit : That dial among the DJ IIs was not a big seller so that price you stated may be negotiable.

I sold my two tone DJ2 slate dial as I have difficulty adopting when the allure of the said watch wore off. No regrets. It went to my office colleague who enjoyed the watch.

It’s probably an acquired taste for a two tone watch. So no right or wrong answer here. Good luck on your decision.

I have owned several DJ II's and they are great watches. I am not a fan of TT but have owned several over the years and may buy one again at some point in the future. You have a gold president so you have that covered. I would grab the SS and enjoy it as a daily wearer. Good luck and I look forward to an incoming thread.

That makes sense I guess for me it's the kinda the odd in between feeling I get from it but I still like it for whatever reason. Just unsure how I I would feel about it daily.

I have pictures but I cant upload them since I have less than 10 posts. What's funny is he has the silver and blue dial as well and I chose this one out if the 3. I liked it cause I hadn't seen it before, admittedly I never paid much attention to the DJ line. When I first saw it I was thinking it was an after market dial but with a little research I found it's a factory dial.

Given the YG DD, it seems that a SS would be a good match for daily wear.

I think your right its more of an acquired taste, so far i seem to favor the solid colors. All SS or solid gold works. I think ill pick this up and just plan on adding a TT later on.

I just bought the exact model. While researching, I found it to be the least abundant dial on the DJII and, I wanted a black dial for formal wear. Good choice.
