*Martian Dial* 1985 Rolex GMT-Master II 16760 "Fat Lady" with "Martian Soil" Dial

Saw this on HQ milton site.. sorry cant post links please search for " 1985 Rolex GMT-Master II 16760 "Fat Lady" with "Martian Soil" Dial "

Anyone know wha causes this "Martian Dial" ? Water damage/ damage in general?

What parts of this watch are original / serviced?

From HQ milton site:
"Excellent and heavily patinaed tritium dial with newer tritium hands. The dial has aged to a brown hue with extensive and even grey speckling. The markers have turned a warm sandy hue and the hands are matching."

Thanks

Shame it had water damage done to it previously & to retail it for $14k on top of it is crazy. I would just spend the $10-12k on a much better example.

I almost think these dial descriptions are tongue in cheek jokes to people on TRF.

Why is nearly every watch on HQ site always have hands that aren't original or way off color? Seriously.

I get that there’s fewer and fewer pristine, or at least close to pristine examples available these days, and that you need to stay afloat as a business. But, it’s so disingenuous to not even acknowledge that a complete and irreversible mess of a dial (like this one) looks this way because it’s been DAMAGED. And then to make-up a nifty, or exotic name (“Stardust” anyone?) for it as an excuse to describe it as “excellent” (What, do you mean? It’s an excellent example of Martian Soil, it’s an actual, objectively excellent dial?) is akin to false advertising.

It’s a F....... joke to describe as excellent. All these dealers describe anything from beat up piece of shit to an overpolished turd as excellent...and now all these color matched hands...I would like to think a real dealer like HQ wouldn’t act like that but obviously they are all the same...all about the $$$$$$$. Realistically that piece is worth 7k, half the asking price

As much as that!? 7 thousand dollars is 'realistic'?!

Was gonna post about this but someone beat me to it hah. I cant imagine what the watch had been through for the dial to turn like that, maybe that's why there arent any movement shots with this listing.

Also heavy patina/ flaking of the dial and hour markers are also very concerning. Correct me if im wrong but wouldn't these small particles make their way into the movement.

I feel bad for whoever that buys this.

HQ Milton just take the p1$$ with their descriptions of damaged dials. Yet people still seem to snap them up

Tbf, it is Rare since i doubt there's that many water damaged dials that look like that.

To me these dial names are clearly tongue-in-cheek.

Tropical is a thing, gilt is a thing, even spider is a thing. Martian Soil clearly isn't a thing and is just a bit of fun. Like their previous Electric Cactus dial.
