Sub NO Date dilemma

Dear fellow members:

I kindly request your opinions and/or counsel on the following "dilemma":

I presently own (and truly love) a Submariner date ref 1680 (not red) bought brand new in 1977... But ...

I had always been missing my Sub no date model 5513 (from 1966), which I lost during an armed robbery I suffered years ago.

Now, I had been thinking a lot about buying a model 14060M, but a brand new watch.
A little investigation here in Argentina, tells me that the present model 14060M which is available from the AD, and the one Rolex of Argentina is importing here, is the model Offcially certified chronometer, which has a rather cluttered dial face, in my opinion, instead of the classic, plain old styled dial, which I find so nice.

I really wanted the plainer dial face of my older model 5513 and non certified
14060, but wouldnŽt like to go to the pre owned market here, nor buying overseas.

Will you please give me your opinion on this model?
Pictures?
Should I take the plunge and buy this new version?
IŽll very much appreciate your comments and thoughts.
Cordial regards, Abel

Abel, I have the older style non cosc version and the reason I love it so much is the clean, uncluttered, balanced and classic dial. I just dont know why they stuck a load more writing on the new version......

I think this is one for you alone to decide.
You have stated you like the clean looks of the Non COSC No Date, so even if you were persuaded to go for the COSC Non Date would you ever be happy with it??
I like both as I really like the vintage 5512 the original COSC Non Date, but own a 5513.
The COSC Non Date could be a very short lived watch if Rolex decide to update the Non Date Sub as expected, but a rare watch you don't like is not what you want.
Good luck in your decision

Nicely said. I can't add a thing.

Teofilo: Thanks for your answer. I completely agree with you. It seems that Rolex designers like lot of wording on their modern versions of old designs. Present day Daytonas are a case, and the Submariner no date another. I also prefer the cleaner dials!!

Spark:
Thanks for your answer too. Your words sound very logic to me.
Anyway, you add something very interesting, which can make me decide upon purchase: the possibilitiy of the discontinuance of the Non Date COSC present version, could transform this watch in a very desirable and collectible variant in the future.
I wanted a non date Sub to add to my collection, and as the "cleaner" dial is an impossible thing in the "brand new market" here, I´ll be thinking a bit more about the possibility of buying of the COSC version instead. I´ll visit an AD this week end to take a personal and closer look to this watch.
Thanks again!

Mike: Thanks for reading and answering too!
Best cordial regards, Abel

Shop around with different AD's or through this Forum or internet because you can find the 14060M ND without the COSC and brand new. I just bought one Thursday(02-05-2009) from my valued AD and it is brand new in the box with all its papers!!!

Aways been a fan of the non date sub and all Rolex movements since the 15xx series more than capable of COSC standards.Whether written on dial or not Myself believe one of the next sort after watches from the 90s will be the 14060 with the tritium dial.Could be the next vintage must have, now out of production. If you can get hold of a mint one pref with box papers etc,I believe that prices will rise in a few years time, could be the next investment piece but the 14060m is a fine watch too.Now I don't normally recommend anyone owning watches just as pure investment

Lion: You were very fortunate with your find. I´ll try here with other local AD´s but being very few here in Argentina, I feel the stocks of old models must be depleted.
Local AD´s usually work with a very small stock, and request the models directly from Rolex Argentina, which sends it in a day or two.
As a matter of fact, and for example, I know that as per today, Rolex Argentina has only one SDDS in stock, ready to deliver to the first AD who request one for a customer.
Anyway, I´ll try to investigate a bit in other AD, just to see.

Padi56: thanks for your comment! I wouldn´t buy a watch just as an investment alone, too.
Thanks again for your answers!
Kind regards, Abel
