2018 Audi A4 navigation

I have this car. I give it a 9/10 for handling, comfort, appearance. However, the voice control on the navigation system stinks. I live in New Jersey, USA. The voice system was "trained" to recognize my voice. But I ask for simple directions to a nearby place and it brings up someplace in Ontario.

Does anyone have a similar Audi with a similar problem and a solution?

Maybe it thinks you should get the hell out of New Jersey and go up to Canada.

Could be sound advice.

Or could be like the rest of us, we have no idea what people from Jersey are saying.

You may be correct on both counts.

Any good restaurants that we can check out in Ontario? Bucks-Raptors playoff game?

I have the previous build of an S4 (B8.5) and the voice recognition for navigation sucks. Sounds like nothing has change. I don't even use it most of the time, as my phone apps are better for the most part. It is handy having the map up while driving for traffic info and speed limits, but that's about it.

Next car I get, if it doesn't have Apple Carplay, I'm skipping navigation altogether.

Apple car play

My car had Apple Car Play, but it seems to have bitten the dust with an initial subscription that expired. I will double check on that, but I think that the cost of the subscription was prohibitive.

voice needs some cpu power, AI is best. The cloud augmented versions are much better.

bmw? $90 per year iirc. they are getting some push back. apparently at some levels they blamed apple for the cost and reddit and apple fan sites went nuts.

I never use the built in navigation. But with Audi there is no Apple car play subscription, just plug your phone in with USB and it will come up.

Just say ‘eleven’.

With a Scottish accent.

That should fix the problem.

I specifically did not get the navigation on my A5. Saved thousands and have it all on my phone anyway.

That video was hilarious, thanks!

I had an A6 that also had a basically worthless voice recognition system (same one, I'm sure). Even after "training" it, it still sucked. That whole car sucked actually, as did the service, but that's a different thread.

My latest BMW has awesome VR for most functions, but the nav is a different module and it has a success rate of about 15%. I just use the controller and enter it in the hard way.

Ugh, I've never encountered a voice-operated in-car satnav that works well. We always end up using Waze. There's a little magnet thing that we attach the phone to & USB it through the system.
