A friend of ours said she wanted one, we looked it up and it was ~$1500!!

I thought a manly looking messenger/briefcase might be nice for myself...$1600!!

No thanks. I'll take a watch over that stuff anyday.

I'm also a huge LV fan, although for wallets I'd look elsewhere anyway. My main complaint with Coach is that if you wait long enough, most everything ends up in the outlets at ridiculous discounts. Resale is tough as nothing really holds its value. LV's strategy is the exact opposite and it works...so far.

So the LV actually holds value??? wow!!! well it's not really for me it's a gift and i was thinking of getting a matching wallet for the bag. the sales person obviously saw my reaction and told me "i believe we are sticking with the bag". if i need a bag my jansport back pack will do the trick and a nice wallet is enough.

got the bag but the wallet well she can buy it herself

Well it's pretty much like watches....don't buy stuff for resale value, but as far as LV goes, you always get something back. Aside from employee discounts and other minor things, you won't see LV on sale anywhere either.

There are plenty of higher quality brands out there as well, just not as well known; LV's brand recognition is ridiculously high.

My wife bought a LV purse and matching wallet a few years back....no problem we had pretty good income back then.
I told her it cost about 20 dollars to make and then sell it for 700.00, what a racket.

True to my low-maintenance roots, it's my good ol' Lucky handbag for me. I plan to get another one very similar to it when this one wears out. I'd never paid this much for a purse, but it was waaaaay less than a LV!

I was laughing at myself just now - wondering what the attraction was over such an expensive purse or a wallet - while wearing my Rolex and daydreaming of my next one.

Irony - party of one!

I actually love LV - their shoes for men are awesome. My wife used to be a buyer for Saks Fifth, so she knows all that stuff.... In case we ever have to raise cash in a hurry, she has half a dozen LV purses, don't know how many Burberry purses/wallets and a couple Chanel purses... One of those Chanels I picked up for her while flying from Switzerland back into the States through London. Heathrow airport is absolutely awesome and their boutiques are phenomenal. I owed her a present anyway and it was a good year, so I decided to 'splurge' on a really nice handbag (not to mention I needed to somehow make up for the fact that I bought couple nice watches for myself while there). That friggin Chanel was $4500!!!! I said that to say this: we went out one night, she had on the Chanel and at some idiot spilled cranberry-vodka on her white bag... she was furious. We sent the bag to get cleaned to Chanel in Chicago and got a call from someone there saying that this bag is now worth closer to 6k, as only 70 were made and I got lucky to find one. So yes, some handbags actually appreciate in value... Absolutely nuts!

your trying to compare Coach and LV's..are you on drugs?? hahahahah they make more money on the small leather goods on LV's..because this are scraps of the handbags..this cost them nothing...like if they are making a LV Keepal (luggage) the scrap of those are made into coin purses ..wallets and credit card holders or key chains...they make more money on small leather goods....
