Paypal

I can't really find any threads about this but how reliable is paypal I was reading they randomly permanently limit accounts and after that you're literally stuck without any hope of getting your money for 180 days.

Example; if you accept payment from John and your account gets permanently limited how would you move forward now that you don't have access to your money for 6 months?

It would be nice to know so I can cover my bases moving forward with sales in the future.

News to me. When I have sold thru PayPal I have had access to my money as soon as the buyer received his product.

I was told by PayPal customer service that the buyer can file a claim that what they received is not what was agreed on. But, the buyer has less than 30 days to do so. At that point it goes to PayPal arbitration.

eBay gives 6 month buyer protection if the advertisement is deemed fraudulent. Same as PayPal arbitration.

? Never heard of that. I have used PayPal for years and never had an issue with my funds. If you are new to Paypal, then yes it is expected. If a buyer sends you a payment for an item they may put a temporary hold on the funds till the buyer confirms.

News to me. My wife uses it for her EBay account. As soon as the sale takes place, she transfers the money. She transferred money as recently as yesterday on a same day sale.

I'm not trying to stray people away from paypal I used it myself to send pretty large sums of money. I just want to know if these claims hold any ground.

Paypal

You would have more luck asking PayPal than asking the thread.

Our transactions are pretty simple.

paypal ALWAYS favors the buyer. the seller can have his money held or confiscated for an indefinite period of time, any time a buyer files a substantiated or unsubstantiated complaint. paypal bypasses the standard visa/mc, amex or discover chargeback (dispute) process, and therefore is not usually subject to their regulations and process for resolving disputes.

frankly i don’t know how paypal gets by with playing bank and acting as judge, jury and executioner with people’s money. i would have thought the salivating regulators or visa/mc would have sunk their teeth into paypal by now. i figure their only saving grace is their proclivity to favor the consumer, which of course appeals to consumer rights oriented lawmakers and is an easy position to lobby. there are no “consumer protections” for a business.

in conclusion, paypal is not recommended to sellers but is fine for buyers.

PayPal can randomly 'freeze' your funds and 'investigate' if they spot unusual transactions.

For example I sold a couple of expensive watches through PayPal and had to jump though hoops proving that I wasn't money laundering.

Since then they haven't bothered me

I've used PayPal for many, many years and haven't had any issues. It's more than once saved my bacon however. I generally use my credit card as my source of funds as another level of security.
