New Submariner

When do we think the next generation Sub will appear ? I assume the GMT transfer from 31xx to 32xx movement is now complete . It makes me wonder if next year we will see the start off the Submariner transfer to 32xx movement and what about Case Dimensions ?

I would expect to see all 31xx models be refreshed to 32xx over the next two-three years. It’s a safe bet there will be a few more models that are discontinued that are not replaced with an identical updated reference (as happened to the 116710LN).

They won’t keep producing 31xx and 32xx concurrently for very long as this is obviously detrimental to production figures of the newer references.

Let me start with saying, "what the hell do I know?" But here's my take anyway. Rolex will go to the 32xx movement on all their watches that use the 31xx currently. Sub will be next. I don't think they will alter the case at all though. i see the Submariner as so iconic that Rolex won't make wholesale changes very often.

For some probably misguided reason I just don't think Rolex will change the Sub's case. The Sea Dweller was the perfect model with which to experiment. Sales nowhere near those of the Submariner. If SD43 sales skyrocketed it might have given Rolex the impetus to make a similar change to the Sub, but that hasn't happened. And while the trend in watches has been for larger and larger models, the Submariner is too iconic to change without compelling evidence. Just my gut feeling.

I agree.

Changes will be limited to 32xx movement. I doubt there will be any change in case size, and if there is, it will be in the same category as the new GMT (i.e., not perceptible by the human eye). Definitely no change in terms of diameter either. 40mm is sacred.

Maybe a new color or 2 and maybe we'll see oysterflex bracelet being an option too...
