Children having children!
A thirteen year old boy and his fifteen year old girlfriend just delivered a little girl on Monday. This is absolutely ridiculous!
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...cle2233878.ece It just leaves me speechless. I'm 19 and the thought of children terrifies me. These kids are just.. kids! It's unbelievable to think that ones that young are engaging in sexual intercourse. Ack! I could write a book on how mind-blowing I find this, but it's late and I work early, so I'll let you guys chip in |

I agree. Many of my nephews and nieces are popping out children like it's going out of fashion (they're in the teens too ! the youngest is on to his second and he's just turned 18!). I think if you need a license to drive, a license to own a firearm, hell you need a license for just about anything these days, you should also need one for having kids. Just a thought.

Judging from the estate and community that they come from, I think it is regarded as failrly normal behaviour.
If you dig deep enough you would find that their mothers probably had them when they were still in gymslips. AJF. |

According to one of the newspapers:-
'Last night it emerged that Alfie's older sister Jade, now 19, also had a baby at the age of 13'. The granny on the mother's side will now be able to claim up to £30,000 per year on benefits, as the young girl/baby lives with her and granny and grandad are all living off benefits along with four other children, under the same roof. - Child Benefit: Paid automatically for each child - £72.80 a week. - Council Tax Benefit: Likely to cover the full bill - £30 a week. - Child Tax Credit: Now the main payment to support children of out-of-work or low income mothers. -- - Possible payment for the five children - £221 a week. - Income Support: If paid to Granny and Grandad as a live-in couple - £94.95 a week. - Housing Benefit: Likely to cover the full rent of their council house, together with any service charges. Total: £568.75 a week, or £29,575 a year. Me thinks there is a patern developing here!!! AJF. |

I strongly believe that governments should implement a system were any money can only be spent buying food/clothing/medicines/other necessities from approved outlets. Otherwise funds are wasted. There should also be some accountability by the people receiving welfare benefits-many make no attempt to find work/or retrain. Young girls should also be discouraged from having children and instead be encouraged to educate themselves ie raise the age when welfare can be received. In the end i doubt any government will have the guts to implement such changes.... Last edited by Gedanken; 15 February 2009 at 12:25 PM.. Reason: Offensive language changed. |

When considering this sad story we would do well to consider Ashley's source--The Sun. Anyone familiar with page 3 of this great newspaper would realize that they in fact use sex to increase sales. It's easier than serious journalism. This incessant portrayal of women as sex objects must have an impact, if only confusion, on young children. I attach a link to the Page 3 'girls'. For those not familiar with the Sun it is an 'actual' daily newspaper. http://www.page3.com/girls_home.shtml Happy St. Valentines Day

You will notice Buz I mentioned the negative impact on young people........... I took a peek and had the warm fuzzy feeling noted in another thread.
Try to control yourself.

Working in the L&D ward or Pediatrics dept. of a major county hospital in the US will show just how often kids have kids. I've seen several 13 year olds and one 12 year old deliver their firstborn...and one 21 year old deliver her 5th!

This has been happening in every major US city and in rural areas for years. It is wrong and creates problems for the parents, the kids, society.....I don't know what the answer is.

I think proper education would be part of a solution. Apparently the boy wasn't aware of what could happen after having unprotected sex. I think sex education needs to start earlier, and it needs to tell the truth to kids, not just "pro-abstinence."

Teach the little boy how to choke on his skone and maybe he won't repeat the mistake. Not quite as bad as state supported Octuplets however. |

Some people living on estates have it rough. I'm sure in areas of high poverty throughout the world there are the same kinds of crimes committed and the same social issues. For people who try to get on and work hard, I have real sympathy for, some people are honestly victims of circumstance. Others cannot or will not break from their cycle because things have been made too easy for them. That is an issue for the Govt to sort out because I don't have the answers!
What the tabloid scumbags such as the good old "Current Bun" forget to say is that whilst they are whipping up a media frenzy about benefits scroungers and unjust payments, they are actually paying these people a minimum of £50k for the rights to the scoop. Smoke and Mirrors. |

For all the right and wrongs it happened, it was not planned, people make mistakes. They could have had an abortion. The new born is the one that matters in all of this.

I can't argue with this but the sad part of this story is there is a newborn. Too easy, too much fun and really no consequences when you think about it. I'm doing all I can to not go off on this thread. I will say that this is indicative of many problems we face in society today and unfortunately Jim, the government is the worst enabler.

And the welfare rort is a seriously bad joke - I saw one man have 27 kids with four women, and he was living like a king while the kids didn't see a red cent. The 28th kid (who was in my care) didn't produce any money for him, and that's only because the kid was a result of this guy raping his daughter. This guy was an expert at exploiting all of the loopholes in the system, but the system certainly enabled him to do so. Mind you, that's only the tip of the iceberg - everybody involved needs to be made accountable for everything they do. Shortly before I resigned, the welfare organisation's CEO turned up at a staff meeting and proudly announced the implementation of a $950,000 statewide intranet system. I asked him what it was for, and he said that the managers needed to keep track of their budgets. I replied, "You do realise that you could print out the budgets on glossy paper and courier them to each and every manager every morning, and it would still cost you less? In the meantime, is this the reason why I have to fight tooth and nail for every dollar I can get for my kids' activities?". He was left speechless, and at that point I started seriously thinking about leaving the job. For the government, the families and the agencies, I saw a godstopping degree of stupidity being exercised and as much as I loved the job, I knew I had to leave before it ate me up.
