Discount on Datejust 36?
Hey all. Quick opinion. Is it reasonable to get a discount on the new Datejust 36mm, black dial, fluted bezel, jubilee? I know it’s new. Have an opportunity to purchase one along with a SS piece. Moreover, I haven’t seen any of the new DJ 36 in the grey market. Thanks in advance!

By SS piece, I assume you mean purchase a DJ with a SS Professional model ... if that's the case ... then no discount for you. The SS Professional model is your discount.
Doesn't hurt to ask though.

i would not be surprised if no discount was offered on the new dj36 with the 70h power reserve. but the 48h power reserve would likely see a discount

I don't think you're going to get a discount on a new 2019 model DJ 36. But there are plenty barely used, like new only a few years old that appear here on the forum for 20%+ off the original list prices. That's where I'd be looking.

Can i just say that I love the choice of DJ 36? In my opinion, no piece has more history. Sure, Daytonas went bananas in the last 20 years and James Bond wore a sub in a movie, but he's a fictional character. When Hans Wilsdorf gave Winston Churchill the 100,000 Rolex, he gave him the freaking datejust. Timeless and iconic.

Very unlikely because the AD would have to "order" that model probably.

About the only discount you will get from a US AD today on anything would be buying from an out of state AD and save the tax. And the DJ36 is one model that they may sell to a non local. I got mine from an AD in another state. However even that was a very old jewelry store in a state my family lived in for years and had a relationship with. In fact the SA made a point when she called me back to say that I was in their database with my old address (from 60 years ago) that was local to them. The other option would be to ask a TSer to get you one. That might work in less than 4 weeks and save both tax and given it is an easier to get model might get you a additional 10% discount.

Worst case scenario would be selling it at a small loss to a TRF member! |

I suppose the worst case scenario would be that I sell it at a small loss. But it's the price I gotta pay to get the other SS piece. It's not a bad compromise. |

Unless you are a big customer I would ask but would not expect a discount on this brand new 2019 model which I do not see often in the stores I pass through. It is great, I actually have one.

And if you buy from an AD you will pay taxes on top of your $2500 loss. It might be more economic to buy from a grey dealer. If you are after a black Submariner ... I think I would go gray instead of bundling. To know exactly what your loss would be ... you can even ask Bob's for a quote ... I'd do this first before making this bundle.

Calling the new DJ 36 a loss I'd say you would GAIN a fantastic timepiece! It's the best Datejust Rolex has ever made. It is absolutely perfect in every way and I bet it will soon become very difficult to obtain when people realize just how great and beautifully proportioned this watch is. Get your hands on the new DJ 36 while you can! |

If it's a bundle, the SS piece is 'the reward'. I wouldn't expect a discount on the Datejust in addition to it.
FWIW discounts on Datejusts are getting less and less common even without a bundled professional piece. |

You have to have the SS piece? Come on. It’s just a watch.
And to do this and turn around and be out $2500? I would tell the AD he can take the deal and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. A few months ago I was at a Patek AD picking up a repair on my wife’s wedding band. The AD told me he gets calls from all over the country for Patek sport watches and he would not sell to any of them unless they “dropped” some big money at his store. I wanted to throw up on his display case. We have to stop rewarding AD’s with this behavior. |
