Vacheron 1942 vs Cellini

I’m looking at a dress watch.

https://www.vacheron-constantin.com/...000a-b426.html

has caught my eye.

What do y’all think? That or a white gold Cellini with black strap?

Yes, I would go VC 1942. I've seen and handled it. I really like it and it would be a strong personal choice in that category and price level.

I guess I'm a luddite but it only has twenty-one jewels and manual wind? Is that against the rules for haute horology?

Not sure why the jewel count is important in this watch. It’s a fairly simple movement and doesn’t have a lot of pivots. It’s not haute horology. It’s high quality horology.

How many jewels does the equivalent Cellini have?

Thank you.

I like the dial more than the Cellini

I have no idea nor do I think it has any relevance.

For a similar price from a trusted seller on here you could look at the Cellini moonphase. I wasn’t particularly fond of the Cellini line until I saw that one. Have owned it for 9 months or so now and love it.

The Vacheron is a lovely watch. It's not gold, but in every other respect its a far nicer piece than the Cellini.

The VC wins every time here.

Sent from the voices in my head and translated by their drinking buddy.
