Who Designed the Sub, GMT, and Daytona?
We often hear that Gerald Genta designed the Nautilus and the APRO etc ...
but we never discuss who designed the Sub, GMT, and Daytona .. which are iconic in their own right. Do we know designed the Sub, GMT, and Daytona?

I always thought the sub was a group effort between Wilsdorf, Jeanerret, Cousteau, and some other French sounding dudes.

The secret is out it was all Hans. He designed the sky dweller in 1939.
In all seriousness no one is credited externally from what I know.

Interesting question......you think with such an iconic design somebody would have taken public credit for the design.....having said i suppose the design is probably just a slow evolution of the original wilsdorf design

Well I guess they're all derivatives of the Oyster, so if you take the Royal Oak approach they're all Oysters and Hans. But I'm sure Rolex Professionals have been collabs for years now. IMO 3 of the greatest watches ever made the Sub, GMT Master, Daytona

Great question (beats all the usual stuff). I'd like to know as well.
I'd also like to know who are the key engineers behind the movements. There have to be some central figures driving the teams behind and are the sources of innovation in their R&D departments, but I suspect this is something that might not easily be known. |
