Man this annoys me !!!

I went into an AD today with a GV that was unwrapped at the UK GTG last Sunday despite me owning the watch for 4 months now. I know I know, what took me this long to unwrap??? Who honestly knows ....

I sized the watch myself by taking out 2 links on the 12 o'clock side only. I know i know , why both on the same side? Anyway I went to the AD because my watch just wasn't sitting right and I therefore needed to have it balanced out with 1 link from the 6 o'clock side going back onto the 12 side.

The AD could not understand what I was asking and said that it mattered not one iota where the links were removed from as the important factor was the size. As the sizing was correct, why bother?

As you all know if the clasp isn't centred the watch case just doesn't sit right and will pull either up or down constantly. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I was the one who kinda messed it up in the first place by removing both on the same side so just let her carry on preaching. The AD insisted that the links were removed from both sides, i.e 1 from 12 and 1 from 6 and that they should know as they deal with this day in day out and that they see bracelets all the time !!! . NO, i should know as i was the prat that did it !!!

They agreed to do my request but made me feel stupid as the fit would supposedly be the exact same. The charge £10. The wait 1hr,

1 hour later I went back to collect and was handled by somebody else. There was NO £10 charge as initially informed. The fit is sublime as the watch now sits perfectly on my wrist and all because i insisted that they move a link to the other side.

AD's ???? They think they know everything but in fact most know Sweet FA!!!

And yes I know, i know it was my stupid fault to begin with !!!

Glad you have it fitting correctly. Very important to balance the clasp. Hard to believe AD's don't know this.

ADs have a procedure manual provided by Rolex which covers many issues, and specifically this subject. In this manual are detailed pictures showing which link is to be removed first, second and even third.
Obviously, neither they nor you have ever read it. Shame on them for being un-trained and shame on you for not letting a real professional handle your new watch.
I always think that an untrained person is going to scratch the link or strip the screw head. Is this OC behavior?

I know what you mean. I think the best way to judge is to fasten the clasp, and hold the watch, dial up in the air to see how the clasp sits, either parallel to the ground, or slightly tilted. And sometimes, it's actually not the fastening part of the clasp that ends up centered, but the whole clasp should end up as flat as possible.

I have to say what you described is often the case with ADs, there are one or two very knowledgible individuals and the rest are general sales people. As many here have said, the art is working out which ones are the knowledgible ones and getting a relationship with them. Glad you got it sorted.

Tend to agree with the above, although I wouldn't use my local AD if they were giving Rolex's away. ( I might send someone else though!!)My experience with them is terrible. Another Rolex AD was the same as the above statement there were one or two who knew what they were talking about and the rest sold the items.

Against that I have been in to another high end Swiss watch dealer and they are knowledgeable and very nice and it was a pleasant experience to spend your money in!

In fact they will change the links in my bracelet for no charge when it wasn't even their make of watch!! can you see a Rolex AD doing that?

Find a dealer and stick to them
