My sub screwed me!

Ok, so maybe it isn't entirely kosher, but I go to Vegas about 5 times a year basically for free , because I attend those time share events where you get 3 nights and 4 days at a decent hotel in vegas , plus airfare, just for listening.

Now, for most people this isn't really a great deal because generally you can't just walk out and get your voucher, but I've created an art of appearing destitute, and they just don't want to deal with you if you have nothing to pay for their crappy rip-off time shares.

My method is to bring the wife, and we dress in t-shirts and ratty jeans, and then listen to the 10 minute pitch. You then go to a sales guy and get the hard sell. At this point I say "well, I sure like the proprty but I have exactly 18 dollars in a checking account, and no job, and neither does my wife."

...they check too, and they find exactly that, because one of my holding companies, of which I am sole principal, is basically dead. it does nothing. It simply exists, just for the sake of existence, and the financial profile is exactly what I describe...TIN Numbers are humorous in their own right, but I digress....

...anyway, once they see this on the credit check(and I NEVER give out my real SS number) they cut us loose and issue a voucher....takes about 25 minutes on average for an all expenses trip to Vegas.

EXCEPT, this week I went to one and the sharp eyed closer, who came in after the credit check, noted my Sub, and then showed me his DSSD, and proceeded to give me the third degree about how I could be wearing a watch like this and still have this crappy business credit profile. We went thru 5 different closers that night, all inquiring about the watch. I even said it was fake, but closer 1 seems to be both an expert AND an eagle eye on dials, and said he knew for a fact it was real, which made my story even less believeable.

....3 hours later, we're on our way to Vegas free...and still not owners of ripoff time shares, but the lesson learned, humorously, is to put on the Timex next time...

Funny story, but are you giving someone else's SS#? You said you never give them your REAL SS, but if you give another # how does it check YOUR credit to find YOUR financial info??? I'm just curious.....

I give them my holding company's TIN....Different from a SS, and attached to a corporate entity that may or may not be held personally. This one is held closely (me) , as it's simply a parking spot for pass thru income.

A TIN is a taxpayer ID Number, whic is LIKE a SS, but generally attached to a non human entity (corporate in some way or another, but this story isn't meant to be a tax primer).

They're pretty good actually, and once I actually got a limited timeshare for some Florida stays over a 24 month period, which were a nice bargain, and provided 4 good vacations for about $500/week...

but these are all unsolicited phone telemarketers offering what seems to be something for nothing (which we all know is impossible) so I just do my thing and get the free mini vacations. Average under an hour for 3 nights in Vegas at 4-5 star places is a pretty good deal, I think.

I don't much see a problem- the timeshare presentations are a scam as it is, if you go to one and really look. Offering a Casio-class timeshare for a Rolex-class price is a classic scam.

Need a SSN, OP? Try 078-05-1120. That's the "Woolworth's SSN"- it was used on fake SSN cards in 1938, and was subsequently deemed invalid.

Not Perfectia mate - Australia. You can apply for a transfer but there are forms to fill in and things to be checked.

...well, I regularly transfer electronic components that are government controlled, and as such I am required to carry at least 1 concealed sidearm pretty much at all times (and I carry three, actually). So, it'd be kind of an unfortunate encounter for the would be thief.

I don't even think I'd have to shoot anybody...I have a panic transmitter that calls in the Feds pretty quick.

I didn't take equity out of my house, or run up my credit cards. My cars are nice but mostly paid for, and I'm in advertising, which regardless of the economy you HAVE to do to some extent if you want business...

I almost cried the first time I read this. So, so, sad that your multi-thousand dollar watch ALMOST (whew) kept you from getting your free trip. Thinking about how much time and effort you had to put in to this (fake dressing up, coming up with stories of how poor you and your wife are) is going to haunt me for some time.

WAY too much time on your hands. You're kind of scamming the scammer (if they are). Might be considered "fun" by some, but that's the same type of person who goes to seminars and fills up 3-4 plates of food and walks out.

Second story like that I've heard today. The other is from a millionaire friend of mine that has a wife that's been trying to quit her job for a decade (he won't let her). She just got laid off with 14 months severance pay. She has absolutely ZERO intention of trying to find a new job, but he has her applying for 59 weeks of California unemployment benefits.
