Incoming: Rolex Explorer 214270
I picked up this baby in Cairo, Egypt the other day, right before hopping onto a flight to the US, and I couldn't be happier!
Honestly, I never ever thought I would buy this watch and I never used to look at it with any level of interest whatsoever. But lately I had started to realize that my Milgauss purchase of last year may have been a mistake (see my comment here: https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...&postcount=158). Don't get me wrong, the Milgauss is still a fine watch and I still have it (although I may sell)... but now I know that the Explorer is what I've really been looking for all this time. A simple watch, stainless steel, time-only, brushed not polished, a whole lot of character, just the right size, works with any strap. I love the 3-6-9, and the more I look at it the more I know that if I had to get rid of my entire collection and keep one watch, it would be this one... also the more I ask myself how I never appreciated it before. Maybe it's the current state of the Rolex market, maybe it's because I don't like the GMT-Master on a jubilee bracelet, maybe it's because I can't get a Sky-Dweller... or maybe it's just that my taste is changing Please share your thoughts on this watch and what you love or hate about it, as well as photos of your own Explorers!

Congratulations, the Explorer and Milgauss make for a great rotation - just wind and go!
Whatever way you choose to go the Explorer is a winner - wear in good health |

Explorer 1 is the best daily IMHO- out of all of the watches that I own, it will be the last to go if anything happens. Unfortunately, I have 6.5" wrists, so I had to go with the 114270. Now if they remake the 36mm soon...

Congrats on the Explorer! I completely understand what you're saying. I owned the mk1 Explorer twice, but couldn't get past the small hands. I've often thought of selling everything, buying a mk2 Explorer and being done with it. It really is the ultimte go anywhere, do anything watch.

I also recently got one and absolutely love it. Best all-rounder in the lineup by far. I rejected many before I got mine. I wish I got it sooner. It has scratched the itch.

I had myself hesitated between both models but the Milgauss wasn't in stock. I bought a Rolex Explorer and it's quite amazing to feel it on my wriste every day despites all the scratches on it...
Great choice ! |

Thank you all very much! I've had this watch for 10 days and haven't worn anything else... it's so easy to wear, I don't have to think about it. I actually found it hard to take the Explorer off so I can wear my GMT-Master on last week's trip, just because it was the more "appropriate" watch to wear. Other than that, I see the Explorer getting a whole lot of wrist time — more than any other watch.

Seems like a common thought amongst Explorer owners that they never thought they would get it and then they warm up to it and love it. Myself included.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I think there's something about the Explorer — or maybe something about the rest of the professional line. The Subs, GMTs, etc are all so much more recognized with their bezels and bubbles that when you look at the Explorer in comparison, it seems boring or not worth looking at. But when you look at the Explorer objectively and in its own right, without comparing it to the others, it really does shine.

I also thought I "had" to go with the 36mm 114270 based on my wrist size (6.3"), and I was very actively trying to find one. I was wrong. I ultimately purchased the 214270 and couldn't be happier, and I don't think I would have been as happy with the 114270. To each his own of course, it's all personal preference. |

Welcome to the club sir.
Same as yourself I just never looked at it as anything too exciting I must admit and I was also used to having dates on my watches but since the minute I got this watch I haven’t taken it off. It really is a classy beautiful classic piece. Enjoy it in good health. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
