Hi Guys,

On holiday in Mexico laying on sunned and just noticed the 4 and 10 illuminous dots have come free and now fall all around the face !!!!!!

Is this common ?

Could it be heat ?

What sort of price am I looking at from Rolex ?

Is it a whole new face ?

Glad I bought my YM II with me !!!!!

This is usually caused by a drop. Maybe not in recent memory. I’m sure Rolex will want to replace the dial. Plan B, find a qualified watchmaker to epoxy the indexes back. It depends on how particular you are.

This happened when my 1982 16750 GMT's original dial and hands were 20 years old. First to go was the lume dot at the end of the second hand. then the hour hand lume stated falling out. The hour dots didn't completely fall out, they gradually fell apart. All this "stuff" was bouncing around inside the crystal. I stopped using the watch and sent it to RSC. Rolex will do a full service on the movement and replace the dial and hands with service parts. I paid around $800.00 US for this repair. In the vintage world this service would seriously effect the originality of the watch. If originality is important to you, find a qualified independent to make the repairs. FWIW- I live in Southern California an I believe the sun exposure had a lot to do with the degradation of the dial and hands.
