OCD CURE - time

hi all

A friend. I have found a good cure for ocd. Boy did it bother him. But I was told leave it a few weeks/months and if it bothers you get it sorted.

Actually. Seeing it over tine. and now it’s not as bad. Trying to keep a watch 100 percent perfect is near impossible. Hope this helps someone.. leave it a few weeks/months and see then.

Time wounds all heels. I bought a new car in 2008. I would go into the garage and sit in it quite a bit, so happy. Fast forward to 11 years and 175k miles later. It has a few dings and even some rust I tried to repair. Still runs well, and it wears its battle scars well. I no longer sit in it in the garage.

OCD CURE - time

I like listening to the watchbox shows on the TV as background noise. On one of their shows this week, Brian Govberg takes off his watch and let’s Tim Mosso display it to the audience. 5 years of ownership and it had acquired multiple scratches, dings, and gashes. It looked like a well loved watch. A watch that could die and it would arrive in timepiece Valhalla walking proudly among its vintage brothers.

There are some members on here who get major anxiety over minor scratches and immediately reach for the polishing cloth, touch up pen, or worse send it in for a refinish. It just seems like it’s not worth owning a watch if wearing it results in stress as opposed to joy.

Scratches, dents and dings always look the worst upon fist notice; however, as days go by, gradually blend into the watch.

I agree. Also, the more one lives in their watches and associates the memories with the experiences, the dings stop being negative things that happen and take in the meaning of lived life. My 116520 took several more dings and scuffs after getting tossed in the surf while in the ocean with my son. Many think of passing along a watch after there gone. For this to happen, the loved one who receives the watch needs to associate it with their loved one, if it will end up on eBay.

My son will someday get my sub and the other the daytona. They may not realize what they are, but will remember me teaching them to ride their bike while wearing, going to Disney land, swimming in the ocean, ocean, all while wearing what they now own. That my friends is how meaning is created. If you keep it in a safe, might as well be stocks.

It does, doesn’t it? It actually blends in. I used to get very OCD with my WG Daytona. Now it kind of looks nicely scratched up.

When I look at my watch, I check out the time and the dial, not the scratches.

When my wife buys anything with that protective crap all over it she leaves it until the bitter end. She's got a 3 year old laptop right now with that shit peeling from every nook and cranny. I ask her, "Why do you leave that on there?", to which she replies "so it doesn't get scratched"....then I ask "because it looks like shit if it gets scratched?", and she retorts "exactly, now you're getting it".

I don't know what the lesson or analogy is here...but it made me think of that.

Every watch I've ever owned I figure I've dinged it up by the end of the first day I wore it. Cars and motorcycles not so much....I park that shit far away from any danger and I've gone 12 years without a single ding on anything.

One scratch is a disaster. 10 years of scratches - beautiful.

I had a friend (back in the day when I had friends) whose parents had the furniture in the living room covered in plastic. Not only that, you weren't allowed to sit on it anyway, not that anyone wanted to. Why have a room in your house that no one can use? What is it a museum?

Unfortunately for me, if it were mine, Govberg's Nautilus would drive me mad and would be in transit immediately to Henri Stern.

Good advice. Someone criticized my watch for looking beat up. Ha. I wear it.

There is all these new brands that do protective films for various Rolex models. You could give that a try if you're OCD. Heard it is barely noticeable and keeps the watch looking fresh out the coffin.

Far from “hardly noticeable”.
Very clearly visible, specially when they start acquiring dirt.

Hard to change a personality ...
I have had some nice watches only to sell before they were " damaged "- some on the list - Rolex explorer 1 , OP39 , Omega Speedmaster , Seamaster ..etc..

The New me has reacquired The Explorer 1 and have vowed to just wear it everyday !
I have been doing that albeit still have some stickers on it lol - I'm trying ..

Cars ? I park away from all others , no problem for me to do - drives the wife crazy .
What gets me insane is when I come out from where ever to go to car - there is some beat up pc. of $H!T right next to my car with 40 spaces available in every direction !!
whats up with that ?
