Explorer II itch?

After finally getting my bluesy, I've been looking at a black dial explorer ii online. Haven't seen it in person, however. Is this a piece with a significant discount grey, or should I just get it at my AD?

Wait until the 50th anniversary model hits the cases in 2021. I had the current one and after a while the proportions being off finally drove me to sell it.

I know a dealer in NY that has it in the case.

I think you should be able to get a discount grey.

Even grey you will be paying over MSRP now unless you're talking pre-owned. I'd just go AD at this point, and I highly suggest trying it on before buying (if possible).

I really wanted the polar but have small wrists around 6.5". Tried it on, looked ridiculous, didn't want it again. I still love how the watch looks, but unfortunately I can't pull it off. Also, for the black dial, it's matte black and not everyone is a fan including me. So really try to check it out in person before buying one.

Seems like not a lot of love for this model? Good points on trying it first. The sub is kinda big even for my wrist..

I never saw it until one day in passing on another wrist. Then I found someone in town that had one, so I could try it. Needless to say....I went used from a grey and absolutely love it. 7.25 wrist too.

The E2 is an amazing watch, but IMHO the black dial is another black dial, get the Polar brother!

Get it. The size isn’t an issue at all. If it looks good and fits well, pull the trigger on it. It’s a beautiful, versatile piece.

I was all set to buy this watch and then saw that my old Omega Planet Ocean was aesthetically a better looking watch.

I was in a similar position last week
Found one local (not AD, but a local watch guy)
I bought it below retail and I could not be happier. Wears fine for me (7 1/4ish)
I like the unique look
Look at my post “expii seems like a bargain) there seems to be plenty of live for them
I probably would have gotten white if I had both to choose from; but I am really happy with the black

I had owned several Polar Explorer II's over the years and enjoyed them. I found a Black Dial Explorer II at my AD last week that was pre-owned and in good shape so I bought it. Wears great and I really like the black dial. I may buy the Polar back at some point in the future but the black dial is here to stay for now.

I think the black dial looks best on the 42mm and the old one in white:-)

I am a huge fan of the Explorer II (I have the Polar), and think the proportions are excellent for my 7 3/4 inch wrist.

It also flies nicely under the radar, and I've never seen another in the wild - which is always cool.

Beautiful watch & one I've been contemplating getting. Definitely black for me. The orange phantom hand just pops for me.

I also think this is one of the best value Rolex watches you can buy for the asking price.
