Modified Air king

Tell me what you guys think of my idea (I know some will frown on this, but i don't have near the $ for a real one). Option #1 convert my 14000 into a 1016 with a refinished dial (i like the 1016 look) 500.00 plus i keep my original dial. it would be a throwback to the old model with a sapphire crystal. Option #2 buy a 5500 air king with custom dial from hong kong (on ebay) for 1300.00 - is this option even safe? his feedback is great. I really want a vintage 1016 look but do not have the money for an original. I like the new explorers but not as much as a 1016. thanks for the help, i'm new to the forum. give me suggestions please.

Welcome to TRF mate. I would not heavily modify a Rolex. Putting a jubilee bracelet on a Coke GMT 16710 is as far as i would go.

where would you get a refinished 1016 dial? would it fit?

as long as you kept all the original parts for when you need them, i don't see a problem unless you were trying to pawn it off on someone else.

If going the Ebay route, make certain to verify that the feedback is accurate.

I noticed an auction that had great feedback, but when I actually looked at the entries, they were all blank and marked 'private'.

Cheers,

Ben

ok i found this link. i would recommend you not monkey up a perfectly good rolex, but rather buy this and wait around for the vintage 1016 or other watch you desire.

cheers
