Anyone Get Nervous When Everything Is Going Too Good

It's really been one hell of a year. So many life changes and so many blessings.

We welcomed our daughter into the world at the end of December. This has been truly one of the most incredible experiences of my life - watching her develop is just wild.

We've completed renovations on our home - wild project as we gutted the entire house essentially as we lived in it for the past three years going room by room.

The watch collection expanded quite nicely for me and the Mrs. Never thought I'd get a Daytona at retail.

My relationship with my wife is pretty fantastic and fulfilling - crazy how we know each other now.

And now just last week I get a promotion that was completely unexpected and I thought to be years away. This promotion is the big one in my business and it's life changing.

I don't know - just makes me nervous when everything is seemingly going right, maybe a little too right... Anyone else get like this?

I had to learn to roll with everything (the good and the bad) before I could truly enjoy where ai was in life at the time. I too had a rather fatalistic view after having had a few disruptive events as a kid.

Just remember that even the bad or disappointing life events help us grow and develop as a person and you will have a much more resilient view. Maybe look i to mindfulness principles as well.

12 years ago I was in a job I hated and in a terrible relationship with a woman and we both knew wasn't going anywhere.
I got fired because it showed, she cheated on me and I thought I could never get out of the hole I was seeing.
Turns out it was the best thing that happened to me. Sometimes you jump...sometimes you need a push.
Started a new job with amazing people. New colleague introduced me to his wife's sister the following year.
Took all that experience and started my own company, married that lovely woman and 12 years later I have a thriving business, an amazing wife and 2 beautiful daughters.
What's the point? Enjoy the good times, learn from the bad ones. I'm a "don't get too high or low" kinda' person but when things are good - soak it in.
My daughters are 5 and 8 now. My advice there. Soak that in too.

However, I don't mean to be negative, if I have learnt one thing, it is that life is a cycle, when you are at the top, you have to expect that there is a bottom coming and when you are at the bottom, you should believe that a top is coming.

Yes I do lol. I'm one of those who only watch news channels on TV everyday and read every newspaper available. Hard not to feel blessed so I also worry a bit when things are too good because there's only one way they can change. But let's not jinx it lol.

Don’t ever let the highs get too high or the lows get too low. That’s the words I live by.

Was in a financially rewarding corporate job for years. Took the leap to start my own firm in March.

Highs and lows. Keep them between the rails and keep loading the engine with coal.

and I can relate. I get nervous all the time. I live nervous. actually started waking up early to meditate and do some yoga before my workouts.

always ups and downs man. I am ready for the floor to drop. I know a down is right around the corner, so I am determined to enjoy this period. and I am preparing for it. I also tell myself when the down comes, I know that the up will be next as well.

Only advice is to step back and remember how good life is at times because it can turn at any moment.

My family has had a little run of bad luck with their health but even then it just makes you appreciate the good times even more.

I’d add to that the ancient words of a wise man who once said:

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”

If you can achieve contentment whether times are good or bad, I think you’ll achieved a lot. Mostly I think this comes from being mindful of humanity and our limited time here on this earth...that we are created equal, and for those of us with the means to enjoy really nice watches, comes an obligation to help those in need, the sick and the poor. To those whom much is given, much is expected.

I think contentment also comes from being at peace with failure or tragedy, knowing that at the end of the day it’s the love we share with others and the love we receive that endures.

I almost lost my wife a year after we were married and my daughter (as in death)..been through bankruptcy, a failed business, been to war and experienced hardship...but I’ve also been blessed to make millions, enjoy a really beautiful home, nice cars, watches, etc. I view what I have today as being “on loan” (Patek Phillipe has that right) — success to me is staying married, keeping fidelity with my wife, having a good relationship with my children (not being estranged after they grow up) and dying surrounded by family and friends knowing I left this world just a little better than when I came into it.

At the end of the day the pawn and the King go back into the same box.

Enjoy the successes and highlights of life, but don’t fear the tragedy or loss that stalks all. Fear can be debilitating. Peace and contentment liberating.

i cant see where we are 'created equal' i may be wrong, but i just cant see it, tell me how we are?

Another question, in what way will you know that you left this world 'just a little better, than when you came into it'?

I am not contradicting you, i just need you to expand on what it is you are doing, to achieve this.

I hear you, there are certainly times in which I think "ok, when is the other shoe gonna drop". However, it is incumbent on me to push these thoughts aside and enjoy the moment. Worry will eat you up and while it's easier said then done, we all at times have to box that sh(t up and put it on a shelf in the back of our mind.

Enjoy the moment man, especially with your daughter. She'll grow up way too fast for your taste.
