I am looking to buy some luggage for me and my wife. What are some nice brands or models would you recommend? Hurricane season is on the way, and sometimes my wife and I live out of a suitcase for a week or two.

My wife likes Louis Vuitton. I am into the quality of it, just not enough to justify its cost. There are no compartments for anything inside. http://www.eluxury.com/estore/louisv...593&brand=3250
At 3,000 for a suitcase is a littleunreasonable.

Tumi townhouse is nice if you like black, but I think all black is a little too common for my taste as all luggage at an airport is black. They have a sport line which combines the 2 of the most common colors. http://www.tumi.com/tumi-sport/turin...e-with-suiter/

I travel via airlines frequently and have discovered Delsey Helium series luggage. I have a 29" Fusion and it is VERY lightweight, built strong with large main zippers and recessed wheels. It is built to take the rigors of frequent flying and is pretty nice looking.

Just a word of advice......I would stay away from "spinner" type luggage due to the "spinners" being very easy for the baggage goons to snap off and I have seen more than a few poor souls dragging/carrying their crippled spinner suitcases due to "caster amputation".

It sure didn't look like much fun, but that's just my observation.

I travel pretty much weekly and I have found that i like Briggs and Riley the best. They are expensive but they have a lifetime waranty. I have several suitcases and also a laptop bag. You break it they send you a new one, no questions asked.

I have several bags with nearly a million miles (air miles), from the following:

Briggs & Riley, for their lifetime guarantee, with no bitching & griping.

Tumi is also bullet-proof, but they complain a little more w/ their guarantee.

In another life I traveled a lot, and Hartmann luggage is absolutely the best IMHO.

Two types of luggage for me. 1) Never that gets checked on an airlines (weekend trips, etc where it's in the car) 2) stuff I expose to the airlines. For the airlines I have had great luck with Tumi. Also have a Costco Kirkland bag that's very bit as well-built and much cheaper.

You didn't say if you drove to your safe refuge for two weeks or flew but I can't imagine spending the cash on LV and then putting it on conveyor belts, etc.

Dont buy LV bags if your checking it in...you will regret it..if your checking in a bag buy a not so expensive one but very durable...delsey..or tumi are good brands..not to expensive...If your going to buy a hand carry bag buy a Louis Vuitton...its classy and elegant and very durable..the reason im telling you this because i have a LV luggage and checked in a couple of time because of the size...when we got to the our desitnation in NYC and claim my bag..there are grease and water stains all over it....and its the most stolen bags in anyairline because of its name...dont buy a bag that will attract attention if your checking it in...buy an expensive one if your going to hand carry it...for check in LV leather will stain so fast and its going to be an uneven stain...monogram LV catches watermarks fast than any other LV bags...

For flying and overseas trips, Hartmann and Tumi all the way...
for road trips and carry on....LV is a nice choice...

although the LV trunks are pretty much bullettproof

I agree with this piece of advice. It's a status brand which is internationally recognizable . . . to thieves as well as law abiding citizens. A carry-on LV piece would satisfy your desire to be well-accessorized, and because it would be on or near you most of the time, would greatly reduce the risk of theft.

Coach makes some lovely pieces.

We need one more medium sized bag for an upcoming trip to LA.
We have the large one, but by the time we fill them , they are wayyyyyy over the 50lb limit.

I have been carrying Hartmann luggage for over twenty years and have been extremely pleased. They will refurbish the pieces much like Allen Edmunds does shoes, so you really only need to buy new once.

I use to travel allot and no matter what I bought within a year it was tore up,so I will buy just whats on sale, I have a Cabelas set right now.

For hurricane evacuation I drive. Typically from New Orleans to Houston is a 6 hour drive, which can easily become a 20+ hour drive. Living out of a suitcase kinda sucks, especially when your government won't let you back home.

I also plan on taking my luggage on a plane. LV may be out of the question for me, but I didn't think the coated canvas actually stains since it is a coated canvas.
