Layla, and here's why: The song was motivated by Eric Clapton's desire to woo George Harrison's then wife, model Pattie Boyd, away from him. To complicate matters, Clapton and Harrison were best friends (and remained that way long after after Clapton married and divorced Pattie). Clapton was also in the throes of heroin addiction at the time, which he attributed to his frustration and longing for Pattie. Fascinating song, fueled by passion and drug addiction, haunting words and melody.
