Wrist presence ?

I've seen the term 'wrist presence' mentioned is various posts, but what do people actually mean by this?

Does it mean that it is obvious to other people?

Most watches blend into people's wrists and it doesn't stand out. "Wrist Presence" to me is a watch that makes you take notice of it.

People want attention. And then they ask: Is it safe to visit [some city in Europe] wearing my Rolex?

To me it’s always meant how the watch feels or looks on my wrist.

It means is has a substantial feeling both in feel and visually. I certainly don't believe it has to do with the amount of attention it garners, at least not to most of us. If you saved for years and years and always wanted a Rolex, you want something that just feels significant and puts a smile on your face when you look at it.

Wrist presence simply means the ‘impact’ a watch on your wrist makes to you and other people who see it.

Clearly if a watch is said to have "wrist presence"... It's about the amount attention it gets.. "presence" being the key word here.

If it does not have wrist presence, it's not noticeabe by definition.

A two tone 43mm Seadweller has substantially more wrist presence than a 36mm stainless Datejust.

"Wrist presence" is what people believe they achieve when they pay $15000 for a watch that is worth about $5000. In reality, no one could care less what watch you wear. It doesn't make you better looking, taller, slimmer, smarter, funnier, kinder, or more desirable to be around.

I think it’s a term used to describe the size of the actual watch......you may be over thinking it a bit. I’ve seen $100 Invicta’s that have tremendous wrist presence.

I disagree 10000%.
Maybe in more conservative environments does it not have any impact. But in the consumerism world we have here in North America, material things go a looooooooong way in how people view you and relatively treat you.

-There is a reason ugly guys (by social standards) attract women who are out of their league when they get or "look" rich.
-There is a reason why a real estate agent selling multi-million dollar condos in NYC shows up in a Rolls Royce as opposed to a Prius.
-There is a reason why when you walk into most luxury stores you are treated differently when dressed as a bum vs when dressed relatively rich.

I can go on and on about how image is everything in North America.
So while "wrist presence" is relatively yet another social construct which we have to live by, we cannot deny its impact on our everyday lives (at least in North America where keeping up with the Jones is a thing).

Most of us buy luxury items for different reasons, and whether or not we are materialistic or not, we unconsciously enjoy the benefits that come with the perception of have said luxury items.

Life is short. Buy what you can afford and enjoy it while alive.

For me it means something that stands out on your wrist and does not just blend in, it varies and some watches that have presence on one wrist may not on another.
Very subjective to the wearer and the person noticing as well.

In my recent experience, my Bulgari Octo has given me a fair bit of wrist presence. Its a watch everyone (WIS and Non-WIS) seem to notice, ask about and complement me on.

I think everyone is right, it is about how it feels on the wrist. Size, heft, etc. but mostly it has to do with how much attention your watch gets.
