Glashutte Original Senator Excellence moon phase or PanoMaticLunar

I have an opportunity to buy one of these and the price is just about the same.

Which one would you recommend and why? I like both and am looking for a watch to wear for formal and sometimes non-formal events.

Why? Turn it over, you’ll have the answer – not that the front isn’t interesting and pleasant to look at.

On the Senator side, you have longer PR, a bit more formal looking, and a standard dial display with central seconds.

If this is to be an events only watch, then stick with the leather strap, but if there’s a good chance that you’ll wear it more often, on a casual basis, then maybe consider the Seventies with the bracelet, to which you can add the leather (and rubber) strap(s).
No moonphase, still a fairly average PR (not that it seems to be a hinderance for many Patek calibers), but a nice watch nonetheless, and the thinnest of the three.

Tough one.

The Excellence has 100h power reserve and it is tested to a higher standard.
The PML has unique dial design, double swan neck and overall more nicely decorated movement.

Case size is almost identical.

I have a PML that I purchased when the Excellence was not available. I think that I would do the same today because I love the off-center dial design.

You can't go wrong with either. I would venture out and speculate that the PML will hold better value if that matters to you.

Well, ended up buying the Senator Excellence. I believe that it will be relegated to formal events and may match better in that use case. Both are great watches and I went a bit conservative, this time around.

Congratulations. There really was no bad choice here as both are great watches. I personally like the Panomatic Lunar a bit more but for a more formal dress watch I think the Senator is the better choice.

I'd do the same. Pano Lunar is a good choice but feels a bit like a copy of Lange.

I am all set for the Pano Lunar and it was a bit lower in price too. However, when I started thinking about why am I buying a watch and realized, that the senator will be a better match for my intended use.

The Pano will be a great watch and I most probably stare at it all day long as it is a beautiful watch, but I felt it would not be a formal one.

Maybe, some day I will get the Pano Lunar as it a beautiful watch.

FedEx messed up the delivery. It is going to be delivered today. Can't wait to see it. It will be my first Glashutte Original.

Here are couple of pictures. It is a beautiful watch. The strap is not as soft as I like it to be. It may take a while to soften and curve around my wrist.

The strap is high quality, it will take some time to soften up. If you have issues with the fit of the deployant buckle, you can try to flip it to improve comfort.

I'll try flipping it as the bottom of the clasp is digging into my wrist. Thanks for the suggestion.

Looks much better in-person than in the pictures. Just adds a dash of contrast in a good way. The dial with black strap looked a bit monotone.

I would not use this strap with a Pano Lunar, as that watch draws attention to the dial and is charming.

Why not both? Could not stop thinking about the Pano and decided to get that as well. So, far I like the Pano better and it is way different than any of my other watches.

Yes , you did. Around some friends yesterday, and almost all were curious about the Pano. It is an unusual dial, done very well. It departs from my Rolex sports and classic watches, in a good way.

Congrats! I just have a pano lunar myself with a grey dial and love it. I'm surprised to see GO doesn't get as much love as it should. For the money, my GO comes scary close to my Lange.

This is my first time buying a GO or two in this case. I am educating myself on Glashutte history in general and all the associated brand. I was aware of Nomos and have always liked their watches.

The next one I am looking at the GO Seventies mentioned by @PJ S.

Although, the Pano and the Senator Excellence fits well on my 6.75”, it would have an excellent formal watch if offered in 38mm case and perhaps 2mm less in thickness. It would be an awesome dimension for someone like me.
