You'll never look at a $10k diver in the same way again.

No kidding! Since I got my turtle I have been trying to think of a reason to
Keep my 16600 and it’s getting harder every day.

I also got one of these this spring with the intention that it would do "beater" duty. My local Seiko AD who I have bought a few watches from, had a few of these on back order. One day this spring when I stopped in to see what was new, they mentioned they had finally gotten three of these in. I said "yes, please" and they brought mine out. Wow, what a nice beater I said to myself. Then I looked at the serial #. It indicated that the watch was #40 of January, 2019. I paused. For a long time......

40 years ago, 1979, in January I accomplished a life-long dream at the tender age of 16 and bought my first Seiko. I bought it on a close-out from a local retailer, Meijer, while I was grocery shopping with my mother & sister on a Saturday right after a big snow storm where we had been stuck in the house for a few days. It was priced at $138. I didn't have that much money on me, but my mother chuckled and said I was good for it. I couldn't believe it. I had a Seiko of my own. I still have that watch and always will. I spent about $500 on an overhaul about 15 years ago. The watchmaker thought I was nuts for doing it, and he was right.

So, great, my "beater" has a serial # correlating to a major milestone in my watch obsession. I think I have worn it two times and fretted about it each time. That serial #......I have yet another Seiko that i am scared to wear....
