The one that (thankfully) got away?

There was that person in college (or high school or whatever) you really really liked. You really wanted them. For whatever reason, it just didn't work out. Maybe they didn't feel the same way, or maybe the timing was off. Maybe you blew it by saying something stupid. Whatever.

And yet, you have no regrets over it- in fact, in retrospect, you're almost glad it didn't work out.

What about the Rolex that got away? You really wanted it, but the right opportunity never came across, and you're now glad it didn't.

Which watch was it, and what's your story? Are you glad it didn't work out? Would you still be open to getting one?

Oh this is literally perfect.

2016 - Post highschool/right after starting college I was working in the jewelry industry. One day I was covering a shift at a sister store - conveniently located across a from a Rolex AD. I wondered in during my lunch, saw the subs, explorers, datejusts, and I fell in love with the Datejust II TT with a Champagne dial. It came out to roughly 11k after tax if I remember correctly.

I was infatuated and the SA mentioned their special 18 month 0% financing. I applied and got denied (despite having excellent credit). I could've bought it outright but something was telling me not to. Ultimately I ended up walking, happy that the financing didn't go through. I'm happy that I waited until after college, especially now that the Datejust II has been replaced.

I wore a suit every day and I was naive - I wanted a "dressier" watch. I didn't even get to try the sub on because the SA was trying to upsell me to the TT datejust.

I almost bought a golden ellipse Patek in 1974 while in the military. I was 23 or so. I bought a Rolex instead. Glad of that because I had that Rolex for 21 years.

Having recently moved to London, I’ve been eyeing Bremont watches - London based watchmaker - as I think it would be a good way to commemorate my time here. While in a shop a few months ago, I thought I had landed on my favorite example until both my wife and the SA voted in favor of another model. I bought the model they favored, then promptly returned it a few days later as I was never sold on it. As luck would have it, I got the call for a BLRO just a week later. Glad I returned the Bremont as I wouldn’t have been able to justify both in such a short period. I’ll get a Bremont eventually, but for now, I’m stoked with my BLRO!

Wow- I didn't know you could return a watch. Congrats on the BLRO. Rolex was technically founded in London, sooo
