1680 help
Hi
Dipped my toe in the vintage with a Tudor sub. Loved the watch but the size was a little small and the fact it wasn’t a Rolex bothered me. Looking for a 1680. Happy to take some compromises not a purist and have £7000 to spend. Possible? Service insert etc fine. Needs to look good. Any suggestions on where to make the compromises? Any advice? |

I think you need to be clearer in your post. Are you trying to trade your Tudor? If so, this is not the section to do it in. Are you asking for trusted vintage sellers in your area? If so, you need to say that. Or are you asking what compromises you can make on the condition of the watch you want to get it for your budget?

No I sold that ages ago. Just an outright purchase. Not sure what the market is like and whether I am being unrealistic as to what to expect for £7000 for a 1680?

A nice 1680 with clean dial, thick case, and appropriate bezel insert will cost more than £7000.

Hi, I'm afraid £7k is well short of what you will need to get a decent White 1680 in the UK, I paid that in 2013.
Looking on Chrono 24 and accepting the asking prices there can be optimistic, the UK listings are as follows: £10,250 for a white 1680 Mkll original dial, service hands, service insert, over polished crown guards. £11,995 for a white 1680 with Mklll original dial and matching hands, nice case. Probably the best UK listed one and without box and papers. £9995 white 1680 Mkl dial, matching hands, service insert, okay case. £11,295 1971 1680 originally red but with service white dial, service hands, service insert £6995 1985 16800 with a gloss dial that is described as "stardust", otherwise known as damaged. £10,240 white Mkl matching hands, looks like original insert. On E-Bay there are two UK listings, one an auction of a white 1680 with service dial and hands currently at £5,300 with 3 days to go, the other a dealer buy-now with service dial and hands for £10,000. I think for £7k you could get a late 16800 with gloss dial, you might be lucky and find a 1680 with service dial, hands, insert but I think that is optimistic. £10-12k is a more realistic figure I'm afraid. Good luck in the hunt |

If you’re happy with service dial/hands/insert, you should be able to find one with this kind of money but even in this conf it is the very very beginning of the price range.
