Calling AD?

I should have asked this in my other thread a few days ago, but is it a good idea to call an AD to see if they have the model you want? I will be looking for a YG DD 36mm Champagne dial in the upcoming months, currently saving, and was thinking of calling my local AD. I have never done business with them.

Thanks!

This is a strange thread. Do what you are most comfortable with. Some people call, others stop by.

Stop in or call. If their a chain AD they should be able to source one if not on display or be able to order one for you. If your not ready yet I'm sure they'll work with you on your time frame.

Why would you need to ask if you can phone a Dealer?

Go into the AD if you do not have an established relationship. You will have a much better chance of finding a piece that way.

Call or stop in, no real difference with a readily available model. If you want a YG DD, they'll get you a YG DD.

No, please send them a letter stating your requirements in detail and your budget. I’m sure they will respond back in a few weeks.

Euh why ? Do you prefer risking to go there and then back home empty handed ?

This is a valid question for me as I have never purchased a Rolex before.

I think they’d be happy to sell you a precious metal piece if they have in stock. Call, why not?

To keep relationships moving, I've used a combination of email, calling and also local face-to-face. Don't hesitate to call around or email..if you truly have a timepiece you want to find. You never know when an AD may pickup and say they have it!

I enjoy just stopping into my local ADs to build the face-to-face relationship over time. I still do (when time allows). I've always tried to find someone in a long term position in an AD, to build a relationship with, as I've found they will be in the profession for a longer time. Family owned ADs are always good. I also enjoy larger jewelry shops who are an AD, as most of my expensive jewelry purchase are for my wife. She cares less about watches...but certainly cares about shiny diamonds. She has two nice watches...because of me!

However, I have also found over time that ADs come and go....as do some of the sales people at the ADs you work hard to form relationships with. Or, you move locations...and need to form local relationships with new ADs while attempting to keep a relationship with ADs out-of-state.

When I got my SS Daytona....I called and emailed about a dozen ADs within driving distance. Some I had a relationship with, and some I didn't. One day...an AD I had done no prior business with had both the SS Daytona I wanted and the Plat YM in stock (arrived the night before). He held both for me until I could drive in...try them on...and pick one. I chose SS Daytona, paid...and have since formed another relationship. Win win. All started with a call to an AD I didn't know.

Frankly, in this market you have to visit a Rolex AD. Rolex policy is to prefer instore sales, not phone sales. So I would start with a visit to the store and go from there. I doubt any AD will order anything on a phone call without a deposit and even then may want you to come by the store if your somewhat local.

Believe that any AD would be more than happy to receive an inquiry regarding an YG DD on phone. If it instead was a professional model, then you would need to go in person without a doubt

Before calling the ad, please create thread, not to ask this, but to ask permission to create a thread in which you will ask your question...

Just phone and find out... 80% chance they won't have it, 100% chance if SS.

My AD says that they get calls consistently, and the answer is always the same - come in-person and discuss. There are so many people hunting, how are you going to prove you're to be taken seriously?

Not a good idea to call. Much better to meet and form a relationship with the AD.

Better to go in person, shows that you have genuine interest and are a serious buyer

Unless it is very cumbersome to make a trip in person, I’d suggest going in person. Explain what you are looking for, your timeframe. There are a lot of good ADs/SAs out there and a visit in person can solidly it. Sadly there are also a lot of crummy ones too...don’t let a lousy SA tell you “this is a super rare piece, but if you pay today I can try and get you one soon.”

I’d say this for sure. I call now, but I have a relationship and talk to the same sales person each time. A lot of non-locals try calling and a lot of ADs like establishing relationships with their local clientele.

Buy the dd36 from a gray you can get it cheaper anyways. Try Davidsw in orlando he has a store you can visit and you can get dd40 cheaper than a dd36 from ad or he can find you. Dd36 as well. Don’t buy the dd from an ad and pay full retail unless you have an issue going Gray. As far as phoning an ad or stopping by either works but I think you will find they won’t have much in stock anyways
