7" inch wrist Explore II 42mm

I like the look of an Explorer II, but I'm worried 42mm might look too large
on a 7" wrist. I'ts not like I can try one on at my local AD.
Anyone have any thoughts or experience here?

I have a 7" wrist, and used to have an Exp2. It was on the larger side, but worked well and I liked it. I ended up selling it to fund something else, but not because it was too big.

What other watches do you have, or how do you like your watches?

As a rule of thumb......

6 - 6.5 = 36
6.5 - 7 = 40
7 - 7.5 = 42

If the lugs overhang the wrist it can look odd......

Try one on at a grey dealer (Although one of the sports models that actually gets worn )

You'll be fine. I wear 40-47mm watches and I also have a 7"wrist

As a basic rule, I like this. There are of course exceptions (I.e. dive watches are designed to wear big), but generally I agree with the general rule of thumb here.

The OP will be done with the 42mm Explorer.

The other exception to that rule is lug-to-lug measurement.

A 42mm Doxa with a 44 lug-to-lug measurement can fit even a 6.5 inch wrist okay.

I can’t speak to the sizing of the Explorer II, but the DJ41 and SubC fit me perfectly. My wrist size is only slightly larger than yours. Also, check out second hand watch dealers in your area. They tend to have some sports models on hand (with second hand SS Rolex prices). That might present you with an opportunity to see if you like the way it fits or not!

Cheers and happy hunting!!!

The post of the 40mm Sub pic may have solved my dilemma. Perfect proportions IMO.

It is not by chance that all watches ads and casual wrist shots are planned on relatively small wrists. As far as the watch lugs are inside the flat zone of your wrist you can rest assured the watch is a perfect fit for you.
My2c.

PS: Brandrea post is a good example.

I have a ton of 7" wrist shots on instagram, including of an Exp2 if you're looking for more pics to convince yourself.

You can easily wear a 42MM watch with 7" wrists. No issue.

Explorer 216570

Hey OP,
I am exactly in the same position you are. I have a 7.1" wrist and my collection consists of vintage Rolex/Omega. My initial watch was going to be the Explorer 214270 but then laid eyes on the Explorer II 216570 (black) . I have currently deposited the full amount minus the additional price increase with my local AD which I can switch to another watch at any point. I still want the X2 and look at wrist shots over and over to ensure myself i'll be fine with my flat wrist. Now losing sleep over the decision I had the opportunity to try on a polar version at the AD which was already sold but BABIED it beyond belief and left it sitting where my hand meets my wrist and did not close it or use the mirror. I was overwhelmed with many watches that I was trying on and seriously regret not wearing it behind my wrist bone like I normally do and take multiple pictures. One straight on and one in the mirror from a distance. I'm going to post the pic and where the watch is sitting my wrist is 6.8". Just measured it tight as a mo' in the winter with zero water or salt consumption at that point.

Mine is just under 7.25. The polar I thought fit perfect nice and flat. Sky d was a little big

If you think it looks too large, it is. If you think it fits perfectly, it does.

I can't tell you what you think. What I can tell you is that on my 6.8" wrist, the 42mm Polar sits perfectly. It's the most comfortable watch I own. The Sky Dweller (also 42mm) is a tiny bit behind for comfort, but not much.

I have a 44mm and 45mm which fit just as well (although the overall fell is less comfortable). It's the lug design as much as the dial/case diameter that either nails it or kills it.

For me a mm or two makes a huge difference.

Op, try it one before buying it. It wears big, like a shield.

If you’re ever in SF, I am sure the Tourneau has a EXPII in their preowned section. Just don’t get suckered into buying one from them.

It’s always best to try it on and Tourneau is my favorite try and buy elsewhere store.

I wouldnt worry much especially if your wrist is flat, that helps. With its slender lugs, smaller twin lock crown and low sitting case back you'll be fine. Yes it's at the edge for a 7" wrist and the white dial appears larger on it but it works for my 7" flat wrist, comfortable as well

My wrist is a shade under 7, and the Polar 42 wears well - lotta 'face' but lugs do not overhang and watch sits flat - great bracelet taper here as well

honestly find this more comfortable than my 114060

The only way you can be 100 percent sure is trying the watch. If your AD doesn't have it just go to other sellers and see if the have a used one to try.

I have a 6.5 inch wrist and the modern polar looks too big on me. However, I can pull off the black dial just fine.
