Best Way To Find a Vintage Rolex

I am looking for a Rolex from 1966. I would like either an Explorer or a Sub. Looking at the usual places online I am able to find some that seem to fit the bill, but I want to be sure that the source is reputable and able to verify that the watch is "correct", as I am not knowledgable enough to do this on my own. I want as close to original and in the best condition possible. I appreciate any and all insight on how to get this process started.

The below thread here in the Vintage section is a good place to start. These are the vintage dealers recommended by folks here more knowledgeable than either of us.

Reach out to dealers rather than just sit and wait for something to be posted. If you prefer to window shop before reaching out I would recommend following them on Instagram. Very few great watches reach websites these days.

A relume, a redial, and a chipped gilt dial.

With laser welding and dial refinishing being rampant these days, I would be more suspicious of a perfect piece. I would expect service parts and old repairs from a piece made in 1966.

Looks like the meters first, aside from being horrible dial, has artificially faded 90s insert lol.....dealers have run out of good stock....now down to the bottom of the barrel...
